Wilson Sophia vs Usher Mini Dancer II
I was off by a year! The Mini Dancer II review is actually in the Dec 2012 Absolute Sound.
Wilson Sophia vs Usher Mini Dancer II
Good question. The 3.6's and Ushers are definitely different sounding speakers, each has a different set of good and not so good points. As you know, the 3.6's are difficult to drive properly and you need a really good amp to get the best from the...
Impedance Matching
Al, Got another technical question for you. How does an RCA to XLR adapter work? If you connect your high output impedace pre via single ended rca to a low impedance power amp and you use an xlr converter to go into the amp's xlr input, are you ge...
Know a Good NYC Electrician for Dedicated Lines?
I just completed an upgrade re-wire project and it most definitely made a positive difference. I had one single 12-gauge run for all my gear going all the way back to the box. Unfortunately, it had to go 70 feet all the way back to get to my main ...
Lower Volume from One Monoblock
Well it turns out I couldn't close the possible deal on the Brystons...the seller refused to allow me to inspect them at his place prior to finalizing the deal...
Lower Volume from One Monoblock
I did remove the cover and check the fuses...they were okay. I will just send them back to Cary (not too far from where I live) and let them check them out.
Impedance Matching
Unfortunately I cannot 'try before I buy' but the price is very, very, good and hard to pass up. Magnepan voices and runs their speakers with Bryston gear because (1) it sounds good to them, (2) the Brystons NEVER break driving the DIFFICULT Maggi...
Bricasti M1 USB
After almost three weeks of listening I have decided to purchase the MSB Analog DAC. Overall, I felt that it was just more musical than the exaSound e20 (remember, the e20 was 1/4 the price of the MSB or Bricasti), and in my rig it also bested the...
Lower Volume from One Monoblock
My only thought was that since the 20's don't really go too low that in the bass it might work.

Almarg, thanks for the info and response. I too have read that Stereophille review and the Hovland does have a very high impedance. So, you don't think it would match well at all? I am using Magnepan 20.7's too.

I've been looking at the Bryston 28B SST2. I tried the new version of the cary 500's but they had some sort noise problem via the single ended inputs; talked to cary but could not work it out. Not really sure what caused that noise issue. Have you...

Foster_9, curious what did you find to replace the Cary's? I am driving Magnepan 20.7's and need all the power I can get!
Lower Volume from One Monoblock
I will contact Cary Monday and arrange to send them both amps for a 'check-up'...I repalced the Cary's temporarily with a stereo SS amp and all is good now, images are centered correctly; definitely something going on with the Cary's...
When is a Listening Room Too Big
I read that long ago probably; will check it out
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
We are finally getting there; take a listen to the MSB Analog DAC or the Light Harmonic DaVinci; both are really fantastic... hi-rez PCM sounds excellent and I think good DSD even sounds better.
