The Future of Audio Amplification
FYI, Class D is NOT digital, it is analog all the way through. There are no zeros and ones.
Recommendation for DAC needed.
The Ayre would be a good choice as would a Bryston BDA-2.
Snake oil came first. By a likely ~ +50k years
Everything has a shelf life.I thought the world’s oldest profession came before any other. I don’t recall that they were shamans.Einstein’s theory of general relativity is not all theory; it is put in practice 24/7/365 in order to keep the timing ...
The Future of Audio Amplification
Until recently, I've been a long time stick in the mud stalwart for class A, AB, tube or solid state guy, but recently, due to some downsizing and restructuring of my listening space, I decided to take the plunge and try PS Audio's Stellar Gain Ce...
Dumb file size question.
A full CD at 16/44.1 is about 750 Mb so that sounds about right.
Your Favorite Holiday Album
George Winston - December (vinyl recording on Windham Hill)alsoBeatles - White Album (have listened to it on Christmas day every year since I first heard it as a young kid Christmas, 1968)
To DAC or not to DAC?
An important part of the DAC is not just the filters but the quality and design of the output stage. This is the part that many less expensive DACs compromise on simply because well-executed power supplies and quality mosfets are expensive.
tonearms, straight and curvy
Ideally, you want headhsell offset; the S-curve provides the offset so that the headshell can remain straight. Make sense? Arms that are not S-shaped will need headshells that incorporate the offset at the collet.
Sound Quality of red book CDs vs.streaming
Agreed with all above that CD offers superior playback performance when compared to streaming. For this reason, I think it’s just a matter of time before CD makes a come-back, similar to vinyl.
Best MM?
+1 on the Nagaoka MP200. Smoooooth.
Skeptic or just plain hard headed
I’m not talking about using it as tonearm wire at all. I’m talking about connecting your table to your phono stage via RCA connectors. The capacitance is too high for MMs and I’ll stand on that point. You're OK with an MC cartridge.
record vinyl to my macbook is it possible?
Yes, I have done it several times. You will need an ADC (analog to digital converter, I use HRT’s Linestreamer + http://www.hirestech.com/product/?pid=100. Then you need software, I use Pure Vinyl http://www.channld.com/purevinyl/ but there are se...
Will decent speakers always out do headphones?
It’s an apples/oranges question and is simply answered as speakers use the room, and headphones don’t. No way to compare and answer this question.
Skeptic or just plain hard headed
So, I read that the PH3 has a capacitance of 294 pf per meter. That’s pretty high and exceeds the recommendation of quite a few MM models, especially when taking into account the added capacitance of the input of any non-adjustable phono preamp, w...
Is it true records are sealed to look better....
Let's be very clear about this "mold release agent" thing and put it to bed once and for all. The hot vinyl biscuit gets deposited between the two preheated stampers and the biscuit is then pressed. The stampers are cooled via water jackets, separ...
