McCormack DNA .5? Do I need more power? I don't know if you'll "need" more power, but a DNA-1 is not that much more expensive than a DNA .5. More power is usually "better", even if you don't absolutely need it.....
DH t-14 vs. Cardas Crosslink: Entry Cables.... I am not a cable expert. But based on owning T-14's, Q-10's, & a "mid level" cardas cable, I vote for the DH Labs. The T14's are very good, the Q-10's a step up from that.
krell kav 300il - what are your thoughts? The sound qualities (or lack thereof) of Krell KAV series stuff is well documented. Just not very "musical", with lots of SS "glare" & haze. I don't know what Krell is thinking--look elsewhere for nice sounding components.
Tuff decision, need help Which Series are the M801's? I'd hold out for the S3's myself. You might also consider Matrix 802-S3's. They look great in Walnut. Try to get them with the Sound Anchor stands.
"Upgrade" C-J MF2500A to Pass X250, SimAudio, Or? Cmach, that's great that you're using such high-end electronics with the Sig. 805's. The more I get into it, the more I think the upstream components are even more important than the speakers. I'm sort of agreeing tho with people who say to keep t...
Merlin TSM-M vs. B&W Sig. 805 The TSM-M's are nice speakers--& look great in one of the optional finishes. They like tube electronics, & are fairly efficient. However "They don't do high SPL's", & I almost totally stopped listening to orchestral music when I had th...
B&W 801 s 3 or???? I agree with Jond in trying a tube pre-amp--I'm using a Cary SLP-98 with my M802's--love it. However, I forgot to mention that I first heard M801's about 8-10 years ago at a dealer, using all Krell electronics (I don't remember the exact Krell gea...
B&W 801 s 3 or???? I've had B&W M802 S3's for about 6 years. They too drove me crazy for a long time. I finally learned that they like lots of power; but it sounds like you might have that with your Krell amp(?). How good is your pre-amp, & front end (I don'...
CAL Alpha burned down:what's next upgrade? I don't know the Alpha, but I owned a CAL CL-25, & a CL-15. I now own a Cary 303/200; really nice sounding CDP, & it looks great too.
Used Plinius, Simaudio, or Mcintosh integrated??? Thanks for all the informative responses.....glad I found out about the lack of input selector on the Plinius. I almost bought a used MA6500, but they're expensive, even used. And, I studied the physical measurements of the MA6500: those suckers a...
B&W Signature 805s v. Merlin TSM-Ms ? They're both excellent speakers, but telling us something about the rest of your system would help a lot in giving advice. The "sitting on end-tables" part of the equation doesn't sound too promising. And, there are less expensive speakers that ar...
Sending Equipment out of Country for Repair/Servic This is not really answering your question, but there are so many great Canadian audio companies (Sim, Bryston, Classe, Totem, Magnum Dynalab, etc); I might be tempted to stick with those.
Intergrated Amps. Krell or Plinius I owned a Krell 300i; haven't heard the 400. The lower-end Krell stuff is just not that musical, IMO. It's almost a no-brainer between a Plinius, & a Krell integrated.........the Plinius integrateds are very highly regarded.
Advice.. Integrated vs Seperates - Low Budget.. 1. It sounds like your only source is CD, is that correct? If so, why not do what (it sounds like) you really want to do & get the best power amp you can afford--& plan on getting a CDP w/built in volume control. 2. I'm sure you realize yo...
Brands that require dealer for service I can't say what other brands require a dealer for service--your experience with Linn equip. is the first I've heard of that. A lot of mfgs. don't transfer the warranty on used gear, but will still service it. One thing I do before buying any used... |
