Conrad Johnson MF2500A or a high power tube amp If you need as much power as a 2500A (240 wpc), what kind of tube amps would you get? Huge ARC or VTL monos? Those might sound spectacular, if you want to spend all that $$, & replace all those tubes. The 2500A sounds very, very good. Whether ...
Looking for suggestions for a 'new' cassette deck I'd 2nd the suggestion of a Tascam. Even tho I haven't heard their cassette decks, they do make solid, usually reliable, equipment. Should be possible to get service & parts should you ever need it, too.
$3000 on Analog system - how to spread? Part of the problem is--all of these components--TT, cartridge, phono stage, are very important. Saying that the phono stage isn't important, is like saying that your pre-amp isn't important. Here's what I have, FWIW, that you could probably buy fo...
$3000 on Analog system - how to spread? It would help a lot if you discussed the actual equipment you're considering. This theoretical percentage excercise is just "pie in the sky" IMO.Just my 2cents.....
spendor 3/5 vs era vs avi vs vienna acoustics hayd I haven't heard the other 2, but I own a pair of s3/5 SE's that I bought for about $750 used. I love them. They will totally reflect the quality of your other components: right now I have mine hooked up to a CJ MF2500A, Cary 303-200, Cary SLP-98, ...
what is the best amp for B&W 802N I'd say, do a lot of research, & probably up your budget to power N802's. And maybe start thinking Mono-blocs. Bryston 7BST or SST's might be the least expensive. And possibly Classe? But don't skimp on the power, or the quality.
Reel to reel deck -Talk me in or out of buying I can't improve much on what Dopogue said:*Reel-to-reel tape is the ultimate hair shirt medium.*Except to say, ALL tape decks break. Repeat that about 100 times: ALL TAPE DECKS BREAK. Even cassette decks. If you like the idea of schlepping a 50-10...
Cary 306/200 CD Player vs VPI Scout As someone who's owned both a Rega P25, & a Cary 303-200 for years, I think it's such an "apples to oranges" comparison it's almost impossible to get a definitive answer (like "SS vs. tubes"). It's great if you can own both. I could live w/o v...
CD player in the $2,500 to $5,000 range I'd say, don't ignore Cary CDP's. I have a Cary 303-200 that I love, & they're around $1500 used. Or, a 306-200 for around $2000 used, I think. Or, there are used Levinsons, Meridians, etc. to look into--I don't think you have to spend even $2...
Budget amp suggestions for Totem Model 1? Totem Model 1's like lots of power. You want an integrated, I take it? How about a Classe' integrated, used? Or look for a used McCormack power amp DNA .5 or 1.0 & then get a pre-amp later. Very hard to get good results with Totem Model 1's w/...
Tube pre to mate with a Simaudio amp and Dynaudio The Sim Audio I-5 is supposed to sound excellent with Dynaudios. But if you want separates, what about a Cary SLP-98 preamp?
best used amp around $2000 for B&W N802s Bryston 7B-ST mono-blocs. LOTS of power, & each unit weighs only 50 lbs, + you'd get whatever is left of the 20 yr. warranty. Don't underestimate the need for a high power/current amp with larger B&W's......
CJ Premier 18/Cary slp 98-which is closer to PF-R? I own both the SLP98 & the PF-R; using them in my 2 systems. They are both great pre-amps, but very different IMO. You almost can't go wrong with almost any Cary component, if it works with your system, but then I've also loved all the C-J gea...
$1000 to spend on an amp used I don't know your speakers, or how much power they like, but I 2nd the advice as to C-J SS amps, or McCormack. Lots of used C-J SS amps, MF2300, 2250, etc. should be under $1K--just do some research on the various models. And McCormack--DNA .5, or...
How much room do B&W 802s need? I've had M802 S3's in my 12x16 ft. LR for several years now, & have really enjoyed them. I have them on the "short wall" however, about 2 ft. out from the wall, & 3 ft. apart. I've found using very high quality components with the 802's, &... |
