Need small speaker for less than $750. Ideas? Sometimes, your first idea is the best :-). I have Spendor S3/5 SE's in my 10'x11' bedroom, & enjoy them greatly. I think you pretty much described S3/5 SE's in your speaker criteria; except that they also have very good bass for such tiny spe...
Can I expect to pay full retail for a new system? Has anyone notice that many high end stores seem to have these same 3 or 4 types of salesmen?--a slight, scrawny guy with a beard & glasses, non-descript personality, able to carry around gigantic full-range speakers by himself with no problem...
Can I expect to pay full retail for a new system? I don't know why some of these stores don't have "Snooty Audio" as the name of their store. Or, "Snotty Pretentious Audio" maybe. They should do a sketch on SNL, with a pompous salesperson (played by Will Ferrell perhaps) insulting all the custome...
Can I expect to pay full retail for a new system? Honest1, I agree, Paul is a good salesman at the snooty Audio dealer in Waltham. The other one you mentioned, once ragged on my than-current gear (loudly) in the lobby of the store, & in full hearing of other customers & employees. And som...
I need help choosing my next tube preamp. Why do you have to have XLR inputs and outputs? If you can live w/o those, I'll add one more recommendation for a C-J preamp. Or a Cary.
How revealing are Grado sr-60s'? I don't know those headphones, but Grados are supposed to be excellent at their price points. They might be just revealing the flaws in your amp & CDP--sometimes happens when you upgrade one component.....*do i really have to buy a $500 cdp an...
Can I expect to pay full retail for a new system? There's a truly snooty "high-end" dealer near me (in waltham, MA) who will not discount anything, ever, even by 1 cent (so the only thing I ever bought there was a $10 bottle of record cleaning fluid). The list price policy might not have totally ...
Upgrading to Totem Mani 2's I just ordered a pr. of (slightly used) Mani-2 Sigs. with the Totem stands; don't have them yet. I'll be using them with a C-J MF2500A 250wpc amp. I find it interesting that several people here have used or heard Mani-2's with C-J amps & reall...
Whats going on with Cary Audio's website Tboooe,I have a Cary 303/200. Also a Sony dvd/sacd player. Having the ability to play sacd's is definitely worth it IMO. Most of the SACD's I have sound somewhere between excellent, & great, even on a 10 y.o. Sony S9000es.
recommendation for best $1500 speakers? If you also consider used speakers, you could get some very fine speakers at $1500 or less. Of course, the better the speakers you get, the more dis-satisfied with the Yamaha receiver you may become.....
B&W 805S & BAT VK300x SE Integrated. Synergy?? I don't have any direct answers to your questions, but a couple of observations that might (?) help:I'm using my 805Sigs with a Cary 303/200 CDP, Cary SLP98 preamp, & a C-J MF2500A amp, & am very happy with the combination. So replacing th...
Using a 220v amplification equipment in the US To me, this sounds like the proverbial Rube Goldberg solution to a problem that doesn't even yet exist (your owning 220V equipment). There's really nothing available in 110V, new or used, as good as these Chinese components?
Good tube amps to consider wit Spendor S5e I think you'll be very unhappy trying to use an SET amp with 87 dB efficiency speakers.....if anything I'd be thinking about trying an even more powerful SS amp, not a less powerful tube amp.....or else just stick with the 3Bst.....
Can tube preamps be as 'detailed' sounding as ss? I don't know the minimax tubed preamp. I think the problem with your question is that it's so general & theoretical. The only way to "really" know what you like--and what sounds good with the rest of your system-- is to buy & try some used...
Conrad-Johnson Sonographe S250 vs. MF2250A I own both a MF2250 ("non-A"), & a MF2500A. The MF2250 is a smooth, nice sounding amp. The MF2500A is a really excellent amp, & can drive a some fairly demanding speakers. I think the Sonographs were a cheaper line for C-J, & preceded ... |
