Loudspeaker sensitivity and dynamics: are the two inexorably linked? I would agree with our op on this topic. dynamic impact helps recreate detail that in turn fills the soundstage that pulls me into the music. That said adding power and dynamic headroom to less sensitive speakers can balance things out and conside...
Small Discrepancies in Speaker Placement The biggest pain in the a$$, but so worth it.
Heavy difficult to move speakers- how do you deal? like skeptikal I tilt and walk my +120 lbs speaker around, but I'm on carpet over concrete, I had speakers that weighed 285 lbs ea and inched them around with a hand cart with a blanket protecting the finish of the speakers.
No Output from Hegel H390 Wen I bought a Mac c49 I selected the unit from the list of options in roon and even though roon recognized the model I got no output until my dealer found settings I had to change manually in the roon setup page. I went through a similar problem ...
Active Speakers Don't Sound Better Eric, I agree with room treatments making much of the difference in what we hear, that said the higher performance we reach for from speakers the more revealing of source.

Why are high efficiency speakers preferred for low volume listening? I hear you, and thats what I’ve thought from the beginning but the consistency has been giving me doubt.
My new Borresen X3's Hi Helomech, guilty as charged. My confusion likely comes from lars appearing at both axpona events in consecutive years demonstrating each brand. I’m quick to dismiss the C and D line just because $$$ is justified with words that sound made up in...
My new Borresen X3's Are raidho and borrensen the same company? Both dub their ‘affordable’ line with an X. And they kinda look like they come off the same line. Regardless, as Mr Hursh used to say, if you like this sound you’ll like this speaker. I got to listen to ...
Why are high efficiency speakers preferred for low volume listening? My Kef blades needed volume to sound dynamic with my 300 wpc hegel so imagine my surprise when I tried the mc611’s and with the power meters bouncing around .6 of a single watt I was listening to tuneful bass and multiple layers of tones I previou...
If you had to choose... After reading your placement issues I scrapped my suggestion. Maybe a smaller pair of meridian’s?
Watts! How many do we need? I finally bought kit with power meters and I use between .6 and 6 watts most of the time and it takes some kille rock to get the meters bumping up against 60w...So why did swapping out a 301 wpc source for a 600 wpc source make so much of a differ...
New Acquired Sopra 2 I haven't heard Focal with Mac. I brought home the Kanta 3's and used my hegel h360 to drive them and didn't care for the match at all. The Pathos logos mk 2 or Mac Ma352 would likely sound great with the Sopra.
Is the idea of audiophile listening a dying concept as boomers die off? Experts have been predicting the demise of Harley Davidson for 2 decades now because us boomers are dying off, but I would suggest it's more the result of a dwindling middle class than 'boomers' causing moderately expensive hobbies to fade away.
Why are high efficiency speakers preferred for low volume listening? Matching inefficient speakers to capable amps can overcome the loss of low volume dynamics that happens to us with large speakers. Something I can speak first hand to. |
