Cheap Tweeks
I forgot to mention one that costs nothing. Some amps , and preamps invert phase. Just wire your speakers in reverse phase to see if they sound better. That is , hot on amp to ground on speakers or vice versa. Not to be confused with out of phase ...
Cheap Tweeks
Beavis has a good idea; I am going to try something similar which should look better . If there is one of the company that sell concrete yard art close to you check them out. They have some heavy concrete stands which don't look bad and can be pai...
knoxville
I sold hi end audio in Knoxville for 20 years (74-94) good to see that there is still activity there.
Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, audio group.
I live in Louisville , have been in Audio since 62, use to be a high end dealer in the days when high end had not yet gone mad. Still have things like Apogee Duetta Sig. siting around the house. Have some unusual things in system. Drop a line to c...
Matching Drive with Audio Synthesis DAX--2
I have the earlier Dax and use Meridian, the 200, the transport section of the 200 series player or the 600 series transport. The 200s actually souns better but the 600 is made like a tank. I also use them with my MF 21 Tri vista .
Upgrade from Old Basis Ovation
I have the Ovation and use a VPI --- external box( it's 3 am and my brain retired some time ago) You know the one, gives exact speed and the ability to play 45s. No, not the little ones with the big hole, the Reference Recordings etc. Works quite ...
Amp/ receiver advice for Spendor SP2/3's
I have used Spendor's since the 70s and would second the "No Receiver" resolution. The British Fidelity amps were very good with Spendors , I use to sell both. British Fidelity was a name used in the US by Musical Fidelity during a period in which...
Match Amp to Spendor Preludes - Meridian or Creek
I was a dealer for Spendor and Meridian in the 80s and 90s and used the 605 power amp with the Spendors , so the small meridians should work as well. The Preludes do not require a lot of power but neither do they mind it. I often drove them with a...
Spendor SA-1 - Thoughts?
I used to sell them , they were small speakers that were intended to compete with the LS35A and other BBC mini monitors , but with a simpler, less expensive design. They should be very good within the limits applying to all speakers of this size.
Spendor BC1
I was a Spendor dealer and removed the grill many times. If you can grasp the edge of the grill with your fingertips and pull back it should come off.[Pull Hard!] I have had to resort to a small knife at times but use care. As the other reply said...
The AR turntable
I doubt if you will improve on the table for the amount you mention. I would concentrate on small upgrades like building a good support for it if you dont have one and eventually upgradeing the cart. I use SME arms myself but have used Rega and th...
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE
I first read about Spendor speakers in Studio Sound , a British pro audio mag in 1973. I ordered 2 pr of BC 1s and have used either them or the SP 1s ever since, along with other models. I was a dealer for them for several years. They are still my...
What amp do you use with your QUAD'S?
I used then first in the 60s and was a dealer for years. Most of the amps I used are long gone but a friend of mine who has a pair I sold him in the 70s formerly used an Audio Research but now uses a rebuilt tube amp from the golden age,I have for...
Two way vs. Three way Speakers
Midrange is no problem for two ways , it is bass. If you have a small room or listen to music that doesn't need to be played very loudly then two way is ideal. Three way can play louder with more bass but the midrange can suffer by being divided b...
Sub woofers for electrostatics
REL will crossover very low and stay out of the range covered by main speakers.
