Is it possible you have the optional single motor flywheel? I ordered that so I will describe it when it comes. stan
VPI Aries III motor and Plinth not lining up
Harry told me he was shipping mine shortly when I talked to him last week, I'll post something when it comes. I love VPI, for whom I am a dealer, but the only info they have sent me is a price sheet.
VPI Scout "tweaks"
Got the brass feet from Star Sound last night. To my ear they were a big improvement. Instead of aluminum feet coupled to the table by a large rubber washer you have a machined brass foot coupled to the table directly. What I heard was increased t...
VPI Scoutmaster vs. Pro-ject RM10
I just completed a modification last night to my Scoutmaster that I think significantly improves the sound. I replaced the standard VPI feet with ones from Star Sound. So instead of aluminum feet coupled to the table by a thick rubber washer you h...
Help, Info on Systemdek OEM tonearm????
I have one in the basement that I found recently apparently left over from the days when I sold Systemdek. It worked with most cartridges then and with the demise of very high compliance cartridges you should have a wide range in choosing one now....
VPI Scoutmaster vs. Pro-ject RM10
The pro ject 10 was tested recently by HIFICRITIC in England. They found it well built but the sound quality was not up to the standard they expected. They found " what let down this turntables performance was an unmistakeable shortfall in dynamic...
Seeking Headphone Reccomendation
Sennheisers are fine , I have the 600s and they sound very good; as I have used Stax for 40 years I have high standards but try to hear as many as possible.
I'm a Consumer Reports sort of guy. Is there a pla
If you want a reliable product that is reasonable in price and still sounds good I would look at Quad. Not fashionable or cutting edge but solid performance and reliable. Look at the 99 or 909 series. I have been a Consumers Reports reader for ove...
Denon DL-103 -- Was it a mistake?
I have been hearing that Denon 103s require very massive arms, have they changed the cartridge? In the 1980s when HiFi Choice was a serious magazine they conducted the most comprehensive arm and cartridge tests I am familiar with. At that time the...
Magnesium headhells for a Dynavector?
Does the Dynavector use the SME type connection or is it unique to them?
Does anyone or does everyone pay retail price?
I have been a small dealer for a long time and can tell you that it depends on who you talk to and what your relationship is. If someone Emails me and asks my best price it is list. If someone comes in and is willing to negotiate a price that is f...
'In Home Dealers' are the future?
So what we are likely to see in future is pure mail order. To get the lines I carry I gave assurances that I would not sell on the internet. At least some of the companies want to preserve a dealer network. I pay 60% + shipping. If I give a 40% di...
'In Home Dealers' are the future?
I was an "in home" dealer in Knoxville, Tenn. for 20 years, 74-94. I didn't hurt any storefronts because none of them were interested in selling high end. I had most of the high end brands current during that period; I didn't survive by discountin...
power cord length
Why would making it shorter be harmful. Excessive length for current carrying capacity might be a problem but you can make it as short as you wish. You will not be drawing any more current from the wall than long ones.
How is your power bill?
I congratulate you , to have been able to stomach 8 years of Bush and be revolted by Obama after a month shows a refinement of taste that I can only envy. My electric bills have been running about $500 the last three months, which my power company...
