Need help finding atypical integrated amp
Two of the ones you might consider are the Musical Fidelity V-DAC and the Dynavector P 75 phono stage. I use/have used both and they are small and give great performance.
Micro Seiki MB-18
I was a Micro Seiki dealer in the 80s but don't remember this one; but they didn't make any bad tables. Put something like a Denon 110 on it or a good MM and as long as your expectations are reasonable you will be fine. Stan
VPI SDS question
I do that with my SDS.
Audio Physic Scorpios and SET amps
Nov/Dec 2007, sorry.
Audio Physic Scorpios and SET amps
Martin Colloms tested these in the Nov/Dec issue of HIFICRITIC. He said that they did not require a large amp. 30 watts into 4 ohms worked well. This despite the actual sensitivity being 89.5 rather than the 91 claimed over there. " In an unlikely...
Amp for Quad ESL 57
Should work well. I use to use a Dynaco Stereo 35 in the 60s on them and the Mac should do at least as well, power makes little difference as they don't use much but big amps can also sound very good if used carefully. The 8B in triode mode was su...
Is Speaker Termination Required?
I have often used unterminated in the past and still think it is theoretically better but all the cables I have used for years have come terminated and most would not work well without it for practical reasons. I have found the binding posts are p...
Denon Dl-103 + Basis Vector Tonearm: Impressions?
I use to have an Ovation, great table. [except when I had to lift it] If price is not critical I would go with the Denon 304 over the 103 based on my experience with both in arms of similar mass [VPI 9 and 12.7]. I just got a Basis 2001 with Graha...
Cd transport isolation
Trial and error is correct. Put some weight or absorbing material on top of the player, unless it is a top loader. I am a dealer for several lines of products and have found the are all effective to a degree but not to sound alike. Cones like the ...
suggestions on MM to MC upgrade
I have both the OC9 and the 33EV. I can't really give an accurate comparison as my OC9 is around 20 years old and in line for a Soundsmith update and I just got the 33. I can say I have been very satisfied with both. I actually used the 9 in an It...
Any experience with Y-interconnects?
I have used good quality Y adaptors I had made by Audio Quest and XLO when bi-amping and they work well.
Sub/Speaker Crossover?
I use SP-1s and S 100s with a pair of REL Stadium subs, I use 25 Hz. I would never go above 40, 60 is for HT set ups. I let mine go full range whether I am using the RELs or the Hsu I use in my HT or the Nelson Reed 1204s.
Could I bi-wire MC 402 to a set of speakers?
You could use one of the bi-wire sets that have one set of connections at one end and two at the other. That would certainly work.
Quad 989 or active ATC?
I remember that Martin Colloms tried to duplicate some of Stereophile's measurements on one of the Quad models but could not, his were much better. These are quire different speakers and don't really compete with each other. If the company is stil...
Removing fine scratch marks from VPI plinth
I had some unknown sticky substance on my Aries and ask them: here is what they had to say:You can use turpentine on the chassis and the platter but you will need to clean it afterwards with windex or some other glass cleaner. Should come right of...
