Moving From USA Overseas... Looking For Advice re: Electrical Service and Gear
Al,Can you see any reason why powering a Running Springs Audio Haley line conditioner off the output of one of these autoformers would be a bad idea?  I've read several threads online stating that surge protection type devices should never be on t...
Moving From USA Overseas... Looking For Advice re: Electrical Service and Gear
Al,thanks for you consideration and contributions to this thread.  Acupwr also makes step down transformers that only effect the voltage - frequency remains unchanged.i have confirmed that all of my gear will be fine on 50hz, so am only condiderig...
Moving From USA Overseas... Looking For Advice re: Electrical Service and Gear
thanks for the inputs, all.sounds like the best thing in my situation is going to be to step down the power from 220v to 110v and use my gear as configured (120v) rather than have it converted for native 220v operation.the acupwr step down transfo...
Linear Power Supply for a DAC
Paul Hynes makes stellar supplies that work VERY well with Chord DAC's.
Novice requesting preamp options
I've tried to use DAC's with volume control in lieu of a dedicated preamp with mixed results - in all cases I preferred the sound with a dedicated preamp.  If you're considering tubes, a ModWright SWL 9.0SE should be within your budget and it a te...
Time for a new 2 channel amplifier - looking for suggestions
You might be able to find a used Job 225 slightly above your price... it's a phenomenal amp.
Hostility from manufacturers
Atma-sphere, Pass Labs and Modwright have always offered me absolutely exceptional customer service.

Best Way to Spend ~ $2000 for System Improvement
a tube preamp with a SS power amp is a very nice way to go!  in tubes, the Modwright SWL 9.0SE is fantastic and should be well within your price range.  Atmasphere preamps would be another to look into - great gear and peerless customer service.  ...
need balanced tube preamp used
+1 to what quigs22 stated about Ralph at Atmasphere... he provides AMAZING customer service and his products are just phenomenal.
Should I get a second sub or a higher quality single sub?
Duke is spot on - the more independent bass sources, the smoother the in-room response. As much as I would love to explore this option, until I have a dedicated listening room, it’s just not going to happen. My only option was a single sub, and I ...
Best Way to Spend ~ $2000 for System Improvement
Some great advice has already been given - an active preamp or cabling are great ways to inject a little 'caffeine' into your system.  For the former, Atma-Sphere and Modwright are tops on my list.  For the later, perhaps some nice silver IC's mig...
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
I've been quietly enjoying this thread for a few days now - thanks all for taking the time to post your impressions.  It's refreshing to see a spirited discussion not devolve into sophomoric insults or innuendos about systems as a means to rationa...
Speaker Cable trial
@simao as has been noted, these things are SO VERY system (gear, room, and most importantly user) dependent... otherwise, there wouldn’t be a need for more than one manufacturer! the satoris are fine cables, no question about it, but in my room an...
