2 DD12's vs. 1 DD18 Go with a single DD12. That is more than enough for your room. If you still feel like that's not enough, go for the DD15, that's a fantastic subwoofer. I personally don't believe having two subwoofers is a good idea both acoustically and financially.
Which DAC for computer based system? Hi Pardales, I own a PowerMac G5 and it's connected through my Musical Fidelity X-DAC into my McIntosh system. It is an excellent DAC for the money (~$800 used) and I have absolutely no complaints after owning it for 6 months.
Best Balanced DVD/CD players to audition Meridian 800/861. That's about as good as it gets for DVD playback.
Multi-input, Volume controlable DAC? If price isn't much of an issue, the McIntosh MDA-1000 DAC is absolutely amazing. It's by far the best DAC I've ever auditioned and has an excellent volume control so you can connect it directly to an amplifier.
Do they make Speakers For Rap/Rock Get any pair of good speakers with good power handling that can fill up your room. Most audiophile grade speakers will be able to play until your ears are torn off. Then add the best subwoofer you can afford. Great bass performance will really hel...
Tube Preamp for Mcintosh MC501 Monoblock McIntosh's own C2200 tube preamp will match it perfectly.
Best Speakers to Audition in the $5-10k range? A pair of used Wilson Audio Sophia loudspeakers will be right in your budget. They are the first speakers that poped into my head when I read you wanted detail. They are also pretty sensitive and your Ayre amp should mate well with them.

Velodyne Digital Drive Series subwoofer in stereo Cary, I asked the professors because they are also in the hobby and definitely know a thing or two about audio, and both hold multiple Ph.D degrees in relevant fields. Who should I ask if these professors aren't good enough? You?Also, those little...
Velodyne Digital Drive Series subwoofer in stereo The Velodyne DD15 is here! This thing is really ridiculous. The whole setup took me less than an hour and the bass frequency response is pretty much ruler flat except for a bump at 50Hz due to the tiny room. I've talked to couple of my professors ...
If Audio bug never hit you, what hobby might have? I'm also into photography, but audio is where most of my $$$ goes into. If I wasn't addicted to audio? I would probably have a couple of D-SLR cameras along w/ many Canon "L" professional series lenses and running around taking 5000 pictures/day. ...
Velodyne Digital Drive Series subwoofer in stereo The DD15 will be here any day now. Sailfishben, as far as math goes, you should focus on the surface area instead of the length. The 15" driver has over double the surface area of the 10" driver. Actually more than 2.5 times as much considering th...
UX-3 vs UX-1 or other Hi-Rez player? Spinitch, If you like Meridian products, you should get the G98 DVD-A/V player and Esoteric X-03 CD/SACD player. The X-03 has a better D/A section than the UX-3.Those two excellent products will make a fantastic universal player.
UX-3 vs UX-1 or other Hi-Rez player? Hi guys, this is what I got from their representative: The UX-3 is currently not available in the U.S. It is a cost down version of the UX-1. Some of the more exotic features have been replaced with more conventional and less expensive alternative...
Velodyne Digital Drive Series subwoofer in stereo Thanks Sailfishben, I was going to buy a Velodyne DD10 for my bedroom and then add another one when I move to my new apartment, but I found a really good bargain for DD15 and ended up ordering that... I'll update my system as soon as the subwoofer... |
