One stereo or two (stereo and mono) cartridges?
@luis223344  Having both a stereo and a mono cart is great fun. In general mono carts are a little less costly so I would say 60/40 or 65/35 stereo/mono for budget. Will you have two tonearms? Or use a removable head shell tonearm and swap carts ...

Well I've heard the Rega's vs the VPI Tt's Not much of a fight tho...
Suggestions for an SUT for Ortofon vintage MCs?
Can the transformer that came with many SL15s be found in that price range?   As far as $500 and under it's in the diy territory or vintage score imho. ( jensen, lundahl etc)
What is the “World’s Best Cartridge”?
@mijostyn your list makes sense to me. Representing two cartridge brands that use non metallic bodies informs me differently on that topic but I do see your point. On the topic of 'cottage industry' perhaps our definitions differ. I would put Lyr...
What is the “World’s Best Cartridge”?
@mijostyn You can say a lot of things about a cartridge without hearing it by virtue of it's design and quality of manufacture I am curious what your preferences / biases are when evaluating design and manufacturing quality from 'afar'? ( since...

Balance control?
In some ways I wouldn't sweat a slight use of the balance control, but it also could be something is wrong; so you need to figure out if its the cart, phono or otherwise....
Balance control?
Did you switch leads at the cart to determine if the imbalance is with the cart?   A balance control is another potentiometer in the circuit. If done well you are probably ok. Care to be more specific about your system?

If DD is of interest the STST Motus DQ might be worth researching. Yes more than a P10. Also great with a Kuzma 4pt or Primary Control Arrow arm but still very good with a Groovemaster III for example.   Disclosure: I represent STST :)
What is the best tonearm for a SOTA Nova turntable?
@gyneguy225 Have fun with the Kiseki! For Balanced out ( and in ) phono be aware of the Audiospecials Phonolab . Not a tube unit tho... I am their dealer so will refrain from subjective commentary. I do have a gently used demo unit available.
What is the “World’s Best Cartridge”?
@ghdprentice thanks for the breakdown. Based on your stated qualifications it would appear that you are in a position to know. No argument from me.  I only wondered when I think of the time factor. Iow every record ever made *could* still be play...
What is the best tonearm for a SOTA Nova turntable?
Btw one of my friends runs a Hana ML into an Allnic 1201. He found better results using an outboard SUT.
What is the best tonearm for a SOTA Nova turntable?
Or do you mainly do MC and prefer not to opine? I do MC most of the time. The OP was leaning towards a Hana and keeping his Allinic 1201 so clearly not in the mindset to spend a lot on either cart or phono. So in that case a best in class MM mi...
What is the best tonearm for a SOTA Nova turntable?
OK real talk time. Maybe try great MM cart. The SUT is not the strong point of your Allnic. Keep everything same and try a Nagaoka MP500 or whatever else floats your boat similar?  Hana is OK too, not great but very even handed.
