Should I upgrade my phono pre??
I've got an AS Phonolab 1.0 available to demo if you like. Since its a commercial interest for me I'll refrain from subjective commentary and just say 'you could hear it and make your own mind'. It's in your stated price range. ....if solid state ...
best Front end for B&W 801 Matrix 3?
Any comments on how the system sounds to you with said 'weak tt'?
New efficient speakers - best way to keep noise floor down?
@sleepwalker65 brings up salient points. While you may not have much control of these factors, a low noise floor requires (systemwide) a proper grounding scheme. Including shields and tonearm internal wiring. Note: this refers to *how* the wiring ...
Turntables and Trusting Online Reviews
The more you describe what you want/dont want/aren't finding the more specific others can be in helping you triangulate. Also you may gravitate to a certain product or topology that can influence the rest or the system choices to a far narrower gr...
What's a real good arm for a Decca Cartridge?
Hmm. Higher self resonance frequency for the thinner shelf? Interesting indeed.
Looking for a new cartridge (and maybe phono stage) for my Rega RB808
@boy412 you will definitely want a few shims. The rega carts are quite short compared to most MC.The Sensitive Sound carts are pretty new to N America (I'm based in Seattle). Since I'm biased I'll refrain from comment but trying firsthand is alway...
Looking for a new cartridge (and maybe phono stage) for my Rega RB808
Phono gain is one factor but it plays in with preamp gain and amp input sensitivity (or gain if you will). Without the full info it will be a matter of experimentation...Btw do you have shims or vta adjuster to allow vta changes? You could try the...
What's a real good arm for a Decca Cartridge?
If your alignment is *close* to correct it is likely not the culprit. How much does your 'dressed' headshell weigh now?
Ana Mighty Sound 103.3
Arm+cart matching is so very much a part of the end result!I run into this all the time with the (heavy and low compliance) Sensitive Sound carts.....
Cartridge output question
I find outputs seem to vary a bit. I also feel that the better your cart (and cart-arm synergy, setup etc.) with subsequent benefits to lower distortion, better tracking etc. the quieter the perceived level....ymmv
About to Buy a Technics SP-10!? Am I making a mistake?
Good buy! Now treat it to a recap and calibration. Its worth it...
Looking for thoughts from Nottingham Analog table owners
I've got a client with a Space deck and arm demoing the Sensitive Sound ART mc (which I sell)  at the moment. And he is replacing a Shelter 501. So pretty relevant.  He's not on forums much but will see if he wants to hop in...
Cartridge recommendations
+1 on getting a cart that is known to be happy in a medium mass arm. The V , no matter how good it is, is not the right arm for carts that need higher mass. I sell a line of mc carts that are quite heavy/low compliance and have seen this firsthand...
Why not use a non-contact stylus on a turntable?
By the time you look at this from a 21st century lens you may as well replace the lp with a modern analog signal storage medium.Records are great. My audio life and business both are built around them. Much respect to the serious engineers that ma...

You have only two choices, SOTA or SME, the suspended tables onlyThe STST Motus II is a low-torque direct drive with a very effective suspension. And it can be ordered with a huge choice of finishes. And its around the OP budget new....I'm the imp...
