5 cartridges - Cello, vdH, Benz, Zu, Hana - what stays and what goes?
Ditto on diving in to learn cart setup. Same is true of the ET arm setup. You have two turntables and one phono...thats a puzzle worth solving! Are you using a standalone phono pre? There are options for dual input phono preamps. Some use a switch ...
Teach me about cartridge 'retipping'
One of the drawbacks of the Lyra design is that it lends itself easily to repair.   That made me laugh ;). I think its worth saying again: skill in building the transducer and a well organized parts grading system are what elevates the best cartri...
Life After Technics SL1200 Mk5
There are other arms to use in lieu of the Jelco...but in any case yes the stock arm can't track a heavier low compliance cart correctly.Light mods really wake up the old 1200s but I would, as Chackster suggested, go for an SP10mk2 or the others h...
Teach me about cartridge 'retipping'
@needlestein mentions something really important about building great carts. Grading. Parts have tolerances. If you are building something great , and more than one, a system of grading parts must be implemented.  It is my opinion that ALL the gre...
The Mutech RM Kanda Hyabusa
If using digital riaa one might well use a (really good) mic preamp from studio world.
turntable recommendations
I am in Seattle. Whilst I sell my own lines I also am happy to chat about setup etc. should you like...
Cartridge recommendations under $2500
The Hana is not the ultimate...but start there. It's fine. And compatible. And resellable. Learn from it and leap in :)
Relative Spending on Turntables and Cartridges
You can certainly take your experience and reach such a conclusion. In a very specific price / equipment band it probably holds true.I don't apply a formula to such things because there are always variations, but budget should always be generously...
Yamaha GT-5000
Belt drive - it's a choice.Straight arm with no offset- it's a choice, albeit a minority one. Viv Lab rigid float has been getting a lot of raves doing same for some years now...Comes down to quality of implementation, as always!
A pragmatic view of cartridge expenses / many questions
I'd say get the best ( note: not highest price...) cart that 1) you can afford 2) works with your sonic priorities and 3) mates well with your tonearm. Play and enjoy!  Modern styli, played on decently clean records last quite a while...
Running Two TT into one phono input, best options?
Emia makes a very high quality triple SUT followed by relays for a 3 into 1. So the MC signal is up in level a bit before the switch happens...
Running Two TT into one phono input, best options?
Haven't used the decware, and other than changing the gauge of internal wire not sure what could make the difference for regular and low level versionsAs its 100% passive it uses a mechanical switch. If you want to geek out you could ask them what...
High-end TT setup with phono stage built in
It may take effort to acquire a well sorted vintage EMT but they excellent. They also will continue to rise in value...
Andy Kim - Needle Clinic
You will have to ask CA. Gyger S is not newer per se, so unless I am mis-remembering the bit about Micro HD, it would just be a supplier change for whatever reasons...
Andy Kim - Needle Clinic
Current spec for gfs on Clearaudio site states stylus as Gyger S. Previous spec was micro HD iirc. You just need to know which you have and ask them directly!
