Tale of two turntables
I know I could just move the Apheta over to the Lenco, but I kind of want a nice cart on both turntables so I can hear them both at their best side to side. Why wouldn’t you just switch both cartridges and see what happens?  Sheesh.
What did a good 10 MHz clock do for your Gustard R26?
After having issues with the second unit if it was me I’d absolutely cut bait and move on as there are so many other excellent DACs out there.  The Denafrips Pontus jumps to mind, and adding their Iris DDC at some point will give you the ability t...
Need a modern Class A monoblock, preferably half or compact chassis
You should read reviews of some of the newer GaN amps if you haven’t already and specifically Atmasphere and AGD for your price range.  Many people have let go of their prized Class A or A/B and even tube amps for these and several have termed the...
Full loom of the same cable brand vs mixing and matching.
I wound up with a full loom of Acoustic Zen cables just because every time I added another the sound kept getting better.  That said, I’m firmly in the “whatever works best” camp and if something comes around that sounds better I wouldn’t hesitate...
Tube amps under $7500
What sound characteristics are you looking for, which model Legacy do you have, and are you looking for new or used?
Streamers under $1500
How about an old iPhone streaming to a good DAC? @bivhopkins I started that way because it was cheap/easy.  It’s functional but even a cheap streamer sounds much better.
Luxman CD players
If you’re just looking for a transport the Jay’s CDT2-Mk3 is cheaper than the D-N150 and probably has a better clock than either of the Luxmans and also offers superior AES/EBU and i2S connections for now or future use.  Just another option to con...
Should I upgrade my preamp?
+1 @mrdecibel Totally depends on what improvements and sound characteristics you’re looking for. I’ll just caution that with your amp and speakers you should be careful to not venture too far into greater neutrality/treble detail or things might g...
Advantage of separate Bi-wire runs
I think the biggest benefit of bi-wiring is the heavier gauge, but all else being equal in gauge if I can get a better quality cable with an internally bi-wired cable for the same price as a lower quality externally bi-wired cable I’d definitely g...
Example of a piece o’ crap, useless review
@mschott But it’s not even a review — it’s nothing more than an ad disguised as a “review.”  And as for the readers of this thing not being high-end consumers, how many entry-level buyers is crap like this really gonna attract or maintain as subsc...
You can't afford a Lambo Veneno, so get this..
Yeah this seems more than a bit silly — an ultra-premium, exotic sports car manufacturer putting their name on a budget turntable??? Thankfully for Lamborghini their car sales don’t rely at all on their obviously clueless marketing department. The...
London Grammar?
So give us a few examples of music that you do find “engaging” inquiring minds want to know @dougsat Well, something with a halfway decent melody helps as does some evidence of actual musicianship.  Nondescript synth mood music that sounds like...
London Grammar?
Gave some of their most popular tunes a listen and not for me.  I found the music to be minimalist and not very engaging or interesting, which leaves the songs heavily dependent on her vocals that I found just lilting and likewise not very interes...
Marantz vs. Arcam
I got to compare their top AVRs about five years ago with B&W 805D3s with my reference recordings, and the Marantz was warmer and fuller sounding but with less treble detail and air while the Arcam was overall more clear and neutral so they we...
Sam Ash closing
Guitar Center bought Musician’s Friend about four years ago, which is probably keeping them alive.
