MC-1 or Ref 30
MC-1 digitizes all analog inputs--that should be all you need to know if you care about music.B&K has had reliability problems in the past(their A/V receivers were notorious in this regard), but they may be better now as it's been about 3 year...
Best amp for Thiel 3.6 speakers?
A couple years ago at CES Thiel was paired up with the then new McCormack DNA-225. The speakers were the seven point somethings(can't remember exact model), so if Thiel felt there were synergies between their speakers and McCormack electronics and...
1.0 vs. 1.5 Meter Digital Cable
I think Martin DeWulf once published in Bound for Sound that 1.0m digital cable was preferable to 0.5m. He offered some technical reason about the signal flow that I don't recall, so I'd probably save the $$$ and go with the 1.0m over the 1.5m if ...
Which DAC is supposed to be better?
No idea. Depends on DAC chips, architecture, the output stage of the Sony, shielding, power supplies, whether the Rotel converts analog signals to digital, etc. The Sony's probably a decent transport so I think you're on the right track with a DAC...
ZuCables any experiece
I've had the Oxyfuel interconnects in my system for a few weeks and am very impressed. Compared to some of the best the highs are right up there while the mids sound a tad less fleshed out and the bass perhaps a little overdamped, but the bass act...
ACOUSTIC ZEN satori shotgun
I agree with classicjazz that they're open and detailed, and I felt they were absolutely neutral. If you're looking for a cable to tame highs or add midrange bloom this is not your cable, but considering the components you mentioned I'd think the ...
B&W 803N/ any comments?
Obviously the 803s are a very good speaker--lots of people love'em and for good reason. Personally I find the midrange a little dry(but very good overall) and the tweeter calls attention to itself too frequently for me. They are also notoriously p...
Soliloquy 6.3 with which tube amp?
I agree with Wayne and Natale. The Art Audio amps that are frequently used by Soliloquy at shows are very powerful tube amps and probably do a better job at controlling the considerable bass capabilities of the 6.3. As a powerful OTL design I woul...
Silverline LaFolia, anyone?anyone?Bueller?Bueller?
I spoke briefly to the folks at Silverline while trying to find a local dealer, and when I asked about the LaFolia they seemed to want steer me to the Sonata II instead. If memory serves they said the two sound pretty similar, but the Sonata II ha...
Five amps that you want to try at home?

Aerial vs B&W vs Dynaudio vs Silverline
If you're going to stay with tubes you really only have one choice here, which is obviously the Sonatas(which will also work well with SS if you go that route some day). I would also put them at the top of the list from a sonic perspective along w...
Tube pre-amp for Bel Canto EVO 200.2
Before you switch to tubes, read Srajan Ebean's article on Bel Canto's new preamp(somewhere in the Soundstage network). He found it to be a sublime match with Bel Canto amps, and this from a fairly dedicated tube guy. He also raised an interesting...
Inexpensive passive pre
You might want to check out Electronic Visionary Systems' Ultimate Attenuators at www.tweakaudio.com. Don't know if they'll meet your price target, but they are very highly regarded and would be exactly what you're looking for. Best of luck.Tim
Best 2-channel audio from a one-box DVD player?
Ric Schultz of Electronic Visionary Systems is about to introduce what will likely be a killer mod for the Sony 9000ES(I think he's said he'd recommend it over his Millennium DAC, which is saying something). With a total price of around $1500 or s...
Best amp for B&W Nautilus 804? Looking for advice.
I know two dealers from two different areas who both found that Primare(from Norway, I think) equipment really opens up the 804s. I thought this was significant because Primare is relatively new and unknown on the scene here in the US, yet both th...
