Looking for a high-quality 2-way speaker You've got some great speakers listed. At the recent NY Audio show I got to hear the Carmels back-to-back with the Joseph Audio Perspectives -- different rooms a couple doors apart -- playing the same track (St. James Infirmary). From the mids on ...
Moving from CD to analog With that budget and taking into account your experience with analog if it were me I'd put $8000 into an analog rig and $8000 into a computer-based source. Something like Well Tempered Amadeus, VPI, or Townshend Rock turntable on the analog side a...
price point to move to separates vs integrated If you get separates you can control your sound by changing the preamp, amp, and/or the interconnect between them. Upgrading and fine tuning is thus more flexible. If you've got audio OCD that's probably the way to go. If you just want to find gre...
Entry-level speaker cables Acoustic Zen Satoris are really nice if you are looking used. Nice detail with very good tonality and soundstaging. If you need new I'd look at Grover Huffman or the Canare recommended earlier. Best of luck.
Amp suggestions for $1000 It was nice of the guy to set up a system "close" to yours, but it still wasn't your source, cables, room, etc. Any decent dealer should let you borrow a piece of equipment or two for a couple days to try at home in your system. I bet you'd be sur...
McCormack DNA-0.5 Protection Circuit problem? I had a similar issue about ten years ago and Steve gave me the same advice and all was well. I'd just recommend getting some additional replacement fuses while you're at it just in case. Shortly after I replaced the first fuse another one blew pr...
how can I make the back wall transparent? I had that issue once and physically moved the speakers out when listening and back when done. It kinda sucked but preferable to hanging weird things on the wall since it was in our living room. So it was worth the effort to me given the huge soni...
Interconnects that offer a mid-bass lift Try Acoustic Zen Matrix Reference (original version, not the Ref II). It's inherent sound is right inline with what you're looking for and can be gotten cheap. And if they don't work for you you can sell them at little or no loss. Best of luck.
Amp suggestions for $1000 Agree with Khartago recs. I've got a McCormack 0.5 rev A and not sure that will warm things up unless it's your amp that's adding brightness. What interconnects and cables are you using? That might be another area to explore. Best of luck.
which floor speaker up to 1500.00 If it has to be floorstanders I'd agree strongly with the Silverline Prelude recommendation given your stated priorities. I've only heard them at shows, but they really wowed me along with lots of others in the crowd with their remarkable imaging ...
Budget-Friendly Interconnects? The original AZ Matrix Refs (NOT the Ref II) should be in your budget used and do what you're looking for.
Is Tom Evans Audio Design out of business? "I was told I could also get it upgraded to the "Anniversary" edition along with the repair, and was quoted what I thought was a very reasonable price. "Apparently it was too reasonable.
Magnepan 3.7 and Nuforce Reference 18 I've got some NOS ADS metal speaker grills I can sell you. Only $500...each.
Speaker Choice Oops, I meant Magico S1 before not the S5. KEF might be good too.
Magnepan 3.7 and Nuforce Reference 18 I see de-clawing in your future. |
