Vimberg Speakers You might want to ask Jeff Fritz at Soundstage! if he has any thoughts or opinions on this. He currently uses Vimbergs as his reference speakers for reviewing purposes.
Speaker Cable Recommendations I’ve used Acoustic Zen Satori shotgun biwires in my system forever. Very neutral and natural sounding with great tone, detail, and soundstage. Had some others come through the door but the Zens always stay in the end. Easy to sell if they don’t...
Emotiva RMC-1 or RMC-1L One of my friends had one of the Emotiva prepros and it was an absolute nightmare. He couldn’t wait to get rid of it. Too many bugs that just made his experience miserable. Too many other good choices to risk dealing with Emotiva prepros IMHO.
2.2 Channel System Processor Suggestions I’m a fan of using a quality stereo pre too and frequently advocate pairing a good stereo pre with a cheaper AVR to handle processing. But in your situation you’re looking for better quality processing and balanced outputs, so you’re gonna have to...
Hidden Gems in Pre-Owned Solid State Power Amplifiers? @mitch2 — yeah I know. That’s why it’s so damn expensive, but then your basically getting a whole new amp. I’m thinking I might send mine to Steve for upgrades. Can you let me know what you think when you get the amps back? I know they’ll be a...
Hidden Gems in Pre-Owned Solid State Power Amplifiers? Some others — McCormack DNA500, Conrad Johnson Premier 350, Sierra Denali, PBN amps
Hidden Gems in Pre-Owned Solid State Power Amplifiers? Belles and McCormack with higher-level mods — beware the older models input boards are beginning to fail and need to be replaced. I know this because I have one that needs a new board, and it’s an expensive repair.
What AV amplifier for 4 x b&W + centre @tcooper656 — what preamp were they using for a preamp when you bought your amp? If Classe, maybe it would make sense to consider a Classe prepro. There are several SSP800s available here now around $2500 originally priced around $9000. I don’t...
Active stand mount loudspeakers If you’re going active, why not go with speakers that are powered? My only thought for what you’re asking for is Linn, but for self-amplified active speakers I’d choose ATC over Linn 7 days a week and twice on Sunday. Maybe that’s just me.
Upgrading speakers in HT/2 channel system Like detail and air but not harsh. To me, that screams Joseph Audio. Since you’re using a sub I’d seriously consider the new Pulsar Graphines as they go pretty low on their own and will save you a good bit over buying the Perspectives.
Best Brands Out of These-Wharfendale,Bowers and Wilkinsons... @shtinkydog — Conrad’s Johnson is hilarious. Goodonya!
Best Brands Out of These-Wharfendale,Bowers and Wilkinsons... I was impressed with Tragico, Fartin Logan, Audio Physicals, and Cockports, but ultimately I prefer Hosef Audio, HoAc, or Handerweeners.
Audio Troy Capital Audio Fest the good, the bad and the ugly! Thanks guys for all the insightful comments. Very interesting and helpful for those of us who couldn’t attend. I’d be particularly interested in hearing more about the JA Perspectives since I haven’t heard the new version yet. Thanks!
Bel Canto 3.0 vs 2.7 DACs I think going to one of their Virtual Battery Supply models would make a bigger difference. I compared the 3.0 to 3.0VBS and the improvement provided by the VBS was not small.
Opinions needed This is pretty meaningless until you share what aspects of sound reproduction and and speaker performance are most important to you. |
