Full range speaker recommendation
I don’t think I’d try floorstanders with significant bass output in your room, and bass will be easier to manage (and likely better) with monitors and your subs.  I’d recommend Joseph Audio Prisms or used Pulsars as JA has done shows with Rowland ...
The review wehave been promising is up
I’m not certain how having one or two comparison products on hand makes everything right, when there are dozens of potential competing products. Chances are that the comparison product I have on hand isn’t going to be the one you’re interested in...
Differences between models of expensive vs inexpensive DACs
Thanks for the responses. It seems like there may be convergence among many designs as they reach the performance limits of the DAC chips they're based on.   No, there’s much more to a DAC’s ultimate sound than the DAC chip — the power supply a...
From separate streamer and DAC to al-in-one suggestion
Unless you’re looking for a big change in sonic character from your current DAC I’d recommend just upgrading the streamer and get more goodness from what you already have.  I don’t think you mentioned what Ethernet and USB cables you’re using, but...
The review wehave been promising is up
I don’t necessarily disagree with sns and, as noted above, the magazine uses several platforms to let readers know what our favorite products are at all price points, both collectively (Editor’s Choice) and individually (Golden Ears. See? This ...
The vanishing stereo rack
There are no power cords shown in the picture! Yeah there are — just can’t see them cause they used Cardas “Clear.”
Ethernet - Analog/Digital Signal Clean Up
Very interesting and always great to hear relative comparisons.  To me this says buy good components, and less can be more.  Thank you for sharing your very valuable observations!
Fed rate increase = lower hifi prices?
Just to bring this back around to the original subject, given the supply constraints wrought largely by China shutting down operations to control Covid, both new and used audio gear prices are likely to be high until things loosen up.  If you can ...
from TV to amp: hdmi arc extractor vs optical dac
Even among big brands ARC/HDMI may be buggy so I never trust a cheap HDMI extractor to work reliably. Agree with @erik_squires. As someone who’s fallen victim to HDMI compatibility issues it’s just not worth dealing with for what you want to sp...
Fed rate increase = lower hifi prices?
Thanks @ideal8592 I know I’m in the minority among the financial talking heads, but IME and as mentioned before, significant financial/economic downturns are caused by four factors: Recession, over valuation/significant bubble, high inflation/inte...
Oppo DV-970HD digital out question
I emailed Oppo at service@oppodigital.com and got a very helpful and courteous response from them on my ancient Oppo in one day, and it was on a Saturday no less!  These guys should give lessons on how to do customer service to other current manuf...
Oppo service
After using the email from @digsmithd I got a very helpful and courteous response from Oppo in one day — on a Saturday!!! — regarding my ancient DV-970HD I’m still using as a transport in my HeadFi rig   These guys are awesome and should give less...
Are some streaming players more reliable than others?
Have you checked your internet speed? I’m not familiar with MConnect or if that might be causing a problem somehow (settings, etc.).  I doubt it’s the streamer.

Same reason you wouldn’t compare a Porsche to a Civic.
Bel Canto Pre2 mod/update?
Rather than spending $$$ to rehab an older preamp, and especially since you’ve had this one so long, I’d consider taking the opportunity to try or go listen to some others.  For example, if you’re open to tubes the Linear Tube Audio MicroZOTL prea...
