Gustard R26
@pinwa I have to ask why you wouldn’t also feed the R26 with the Iris?  When I fed my R2R DAC with the Iris and an i2S connection the difference was quite remarkable.  Seems like the R26 is fighting with one arm behind its back at this point.
Integrated amplifier for Dynaudio Heritage Special
The first and most important question is what sound characteristics are you looking for out of the amp.  Second, at 85dB and a stated impedance of 4 Ohms (which means they probably dip quite a bit below that likely in the upper bass/lower mids) yo...
Okay to use RCA adapter on a fully balanced amp?
So, with your amp you paid a lot extra because the manufacturer had to create two independent channels instead of just one, which ups the parts count and price considerably and you basically lose that benefit by sending it an unbalanced signal.  U...
Power cords: Anticable vs Mad Scientist
These LavriCables PCs are pure silver and have gotten very good reviews from some members here who’ve compared them to much pricier cables from Synergistic and others.  And at $543 for a 2m cable it’s well below your max budget.  Not familiar with...
Reliable Mid-Priced 7.2 Channel Receiver
You can get the Denon for $500 from accessories4less.  You might also take a look at the Yamaha RX-A780 from their higher Avantage line for only $450.  https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/denavrs960h/denon-avr-s960h-7.2-ch-x-90-watt...
Best Amps for Magneplanar 1.7i Speakers
Lots of ideas here, and thanks to all of you! There is something to mrskeptic’s observation that maybe I am just looking for a Christmas present for myself. Still, with that volume knob well past the halfway mark I do wonder whether the Maggies n...
Qln, Joseph Audio, Audiovector, Marten, or Canton...?
+1 @prof  They seem to have been designed to deliver maximum output and dynamic impact THX style, but I’ve not seen a review where they’re compared to speakers that can reproduce real music versus other high-end speakers.  Not saying they don’t, j...
Reliable Mid-Priced 7.2 Channel Receiver
I worked for Magnolia and got to audition several AVRs back to back driving B&W 804D3s, and compared to Arcam, Marantz, and Denon the Yamaha was by far the one that reminded me most of my $10k separate stereo amp/preamp.  Not even close.   Als...
Thought I’d share: Nicely done and practical DAC review
@knownothing My impression was both a HeadFi and home system were used to evaluate the DACs, but I agree totally that headphones in general cannot reveal the finer points of imaging/soundstage like a big rig can.  Not even close.
Built-in vs. Standalone DACs
For those who buy combo DAC/Streamers I wish you luck upgrading as each of these technologies progress at a rapid pace.  Why?  Just for the convenience of having one box and one less interconnect?  To each his/her own, but I’ll take the flexibilit...
Receptacle outlet, nickel plating, is this a problem?
If your budget is around $100 I’d go with a Maestro outlet that avoids plating altogether.  If budget is higher I might consider Furutech with Rhodium plating, but all depends on what sound characteristics you’re looking for.  I like more natural ...
Recommendations for good sounding streamer
I second a Google Chromecast Audio @zerofox Uh, no.  Just…no.  It’s complete shite. There’s a reason they don’t make them anymore.  RIP Chromecast Audio.
Reliable Mid-Priced 7.2 Channel Receiver
So, I am most interested in how to select a reliable 7.2 receiver in my price range.   Uh, that said it’d be most helpful if you gave us said price range?
Better music player alternative to Mac Air / laptop
I used the iPowerX because it was all that was in my budget. I’d go with an LPS if it was in my budget as I’d guess it’d be even better.  I didn’t compare it to the stock unit because it all came together and as I’ve heard so many positive reviews...
What now?
I need to find floor-standing speakers I can put on either side of the piano and close to the wall behind them. That’s a huge bummer, and I just wouldn’t do it. I’d suggest you use something like these gliders from Herbie’s that’d allow you to ...
