When were the best tube amps made?
I stashed that SP9 in a closet for perhaps a decade, forgot I even had it. Upon rediscovery put it up for sale, sold for asking price in a minute. I see post in forums from time to time, some think that pre something special!
Seeking DAC using the ESS ES9038PRO, but not a streamer
I agree, Sabre chips not inherently bright, all about implementation.   @yada Don't know your specific setup, but Okto Pro DAC has capability of 8 channels. Uses 9028 Sabre chip, I had Okto Dac 8 stereo, very nice dac!
Has anyone used the new Innuos 2.0 Sense music app? Compared it to Roon?
@charles1dad Surprised the Russians haven't bombed that facility, glad you're helping out the Ukranians!   Yessir, GO BLUE!!!!!
USB yet again
@j_andrews Look for Amanero or XMOS usb board in dac, not aware of any other top flight usb implementation on dacs.   I had Singxer SU6 at one point, never even bothered listening to it as research and logic made it moot point to even bother. Ad...
When were the best tube amps made?
Every time has good, bad, mediocre.   @erik_squires Funny you mentioned AR from 80's. AR fans will hate me for this, but AR SP9 MkIII  has remained one the WORST sounding components I ever purchased, very bad memories of that one. Hybrid design ...
Is a highly discerning system enjoyable?
Question isn't one of bad recordings for me, bad recordings have always provided poor sound in every system I've built. Even the most romantic system I had in early 2000's couldn't make a silk purse out of a turd. Its the mediocre recordings I'm m...
The band 'Sparks' on Netflix
I recall seeing them back in the day, very interesting performers and individuals, did enjoy the music. Still have much of their output in my libraries.
Streamer upgrade? follow up.
@niodari I've been diy building/assembling desktop computers, modding mac minis for music server exclusive duty for many years. Also was in midst of researching and planning building/assembling an extremely high end bespoke streamer, which didn't ...
Why are so many people spending so much money to build “perfect” streaming system?
@malibu457 In my estimation implementation of greatly improved ADC in recording studios was responsible for much of digital SQ improvement. For streaming , lossless services.   I've never had a single long term failure with streaming, user error...
Has anyone used the new Innuos 2.0 Sense music app? Compared it to Roon?
Charles, good for you taking plunge into streaming. Streaming was simple affair in beginning for me, now completely OCD with it! Just can't seem to stop with the experimentation, has replaced my diy modding with rest of system.   With rest of sy...
Musetec Audio MH-DA005 ES9038 Pro x2 DAC VS the Lab12 dac1 reference Tube Hybrid Dac
I'd expect these two dacs to sound quite different from each other. I'm with melm on this, 005 neutral voiced, I'd expect the Lab 12 to be the warm dac here.   I've compared the 005 directly with LKS 004, Okto Dac 8 stereo, Auralic Vega, been pa...
Has anyone used the new Innuos 2.0 Sense music app? Compared it to Roon?
@audioman58 The embedded HQPlayer is impressive, far superior to Roon for dsp. Incredible number of settings, haven't even begun to explore many, although the settings I've used have provided very high quality sound. HQP just sounds a bit artifici...
Streamer upgrade? follow up.
South Korea, and most Asian countries for that matter have thriving middle class, seems we have income issues here based on citizen discontent I observe.
Why are so many people spending so much money to build “perfect” streaming system?
Not sure I mentioned this previously, but jitter minimization is key to best quality streaming, not sure there is any amount of jitter humans can't detect. This is where large measure of resources should be concentrated, relatively high levels of ...
Why are so many people spending so much money to build “perfect” streaming system?
I've built a number of systems over the years, I'm not an equipment churner, rather system builder, so the following pattern repeated itself over the years. A series of upgrades resulting in marginal gains until system was completed. I considered ...
