Your Forever Pieces? What and Why?
Oldest piece is Harman Kardon T60 tt, purchased 1981, still use with a few mods. Dahlquist DQ-10's shortly thereafter, Conrad Johnson  MV55 a bit later. Don't use these two pieces anymore, fond memories make some equipment hard to sell.
What is the first album you purchased, and do you still have it?
Jan and Dean, Little Old Lady From Pasadena. Before that only 75's. Extremely limited record collection meant you played your music many times over, strange to think playing the same songs over and over could be so entertaining. Doubtful I still h...
Horns: Why don't they image well?
My highly modified Klipschorns suffer very little in direct comparison to my highly modified Merlin VSM. Hard panned information does 'stick' to the Klipshcorns a bit more, the Merlins seem to disappear with the same hard panned information. I thi...
For those of us over 60..
Impossible to distill to any particular band or any number of bands. No band or bands can describe the entirety of my life, too many changes.Childhood was top 40 radio, in adolescence the Beatles, British Invasion Bands, garage rock, later in adol...
What Matters and What is Nonsense
Over many years and many permutations of my setup, relative cost percentages have changed and sometimes quite radically. I agree the listening room is critical, cost benefit ratio high here. Some tweaks work, others not. Tweaks with a long track r...
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
I don't often enter audio forums anymore, but 83 pages arguing about fuses spurred me to comment. I observe a consistent and repeated process here where the thread begins with someone reporting on the efficacy of some product. The process goes som...
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
Charles,You have a very nice setup, all Coincident equipment is major bang for the buck. The Carissa is modded to some degree, Coincident stock. The Coincident is higher resolution and more dynamic, tonality in my setup spot on, great amp. I've th...
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
I've been following this thread for some time, most informative on web. Thought I would relate some of my experiences with fuses. Most have been positive, use SR Reds in some of my equipment. However, I've had problems with blown SR fuses in two o...
Audiophile Fuses
Charles1dad,My systems page needs to be updated, much has changed! The Coincident Turbo was purchased when Art Audio was at tech for power transformer replacement. I should be getting back AA in next week or so. I've also changed out coupling caps...
Audiophile Fuses
Jea48,Correct, 6.3amp slow blow came with amp. One more thing, I also noticed the Synergistic Red Quantum fuses were slightly smaller diameter than Rat Shack fuses.I had to pinch contacts on Coincident screw in fuse holder to tightly grab the syne...
Audiophile Fuses
I am having no problems with the Rat Shack 6.3amp fuses in the Turbo. I've never experienced blown audiophile fuses prior to these two in this amp. This includes the Blue Synergistic quantum fuse in my Art Audio Carissa Signature, another high cur...
Anyone using Duelund VSF capacitor in Merlin VSM
Clabe, I agree with Bobby on the Mundorf sound. I've tried the Mundorf Silver oils in various places in my system, thin out mids and brighten highs. I've heard the Mundorf golds are a bit better in mids. I will only use Mundorfs as replacements in...
Anyone using Duelund VSF capacitor in Merlin VSM
I've heard the same improvements the previous posters mentioned from my Duelund caps, tx2575 resistors and a recent upgrade from stock ceramic power supply caps to Z Superior caps in SBAM. Natural timbre of Duelunds, increased resolution of tx2575...
Joule Electra LA-450ME
I have no doubt that a good measure of the sound improvement in the 450 is due to the Mundorf and Vcap upgrades. The stock caps in Joule are a weak link. Modding out the caps in my LA 100 MK. III transformed the sound!
Anyone using Duelund VSF capacitor in Merlin VSM
Yes, I agree the cap on RC network is critical, changing this out made a larger difference than adding the bypass on the HOvland tweeter cap.I should also add that the hardness I speak of is mostly an artifact of the recording process. I mostly he...
