Any good and cheap CD racks?
Afte looking at many types that didn't fill the bill, I found a couple of Auvicase on sale at a Dollar store for $20 each. Think they retailed for $35-40. Must be like the Boltz(?) because they have the same problem. However, mine are black engine...
Gold disk VS regular disk?
With regard to earlier and later version of the same album, if they were manufactured in the US, early US plants had a terrible process quality problem. The yield of acceptables was very low and it took a long time for some plants to even come on ...
Gold disk VS regular disk?
I believe Mobile's claim was that gold is more malleable, reulting in better pits which can be read more accurately, therefore requiring less correction aka distortion.
amplifier problem...help wanted
Good point about both channels, E. A common TV problem with same symptoms is old dried up electrolytic cap in power supply. Perhaps you have a meter and could monitor the power supply output voltage.
amplifier problem...help wanted
You didn't say if it was tube or SS, but I'll assume SS because of the vintage and the obviousness of a tube problem. Capacitor or resistor (heating/cooling makes for auto_intermittancy)is a good possibility or oxidized solder joint. You might che...
Capacitance: Help me understand
Just so I don't lose too much credibility (assuming I have any), my post should have read: "One farad is high capacitance, but not as high as ten farads . A few picofarads per foot is very low in comparison to either and should be relatively incon...
Capacitance: Help me understand
It's all relative. One farad is high capacitance, but not as high as ten farads and should be relatively inconsequential at audio frequencies. A few picofarads per foot is very low in comparison to either. If any decent audio cable really affects ...
Why I use to fall into sleep while liste
Maybe the exercise involved in changing the dimensions increases the blood flow to your brain? Maybe it puts you out of the sweet spot for the subliminal hypnotic messages on your recordings? I used to experience the same thing, but changing the d...
Class A?
So there must be some Class A Class A amps and some Class B Class A amps and so on. Only in Audiophilia. Sorry, I couldn't resist. :)
Class A?
Please read that ... "provides least distortion"
Class A?
Richard is, of course, correct, but just to verbalize a little more... so, the "class" is not a rating, it is the characteristic of the output stage design. There are several defined classes, but A and AB are considered "linear"; that is, there is...
Tuntable set-up mistakes?
Look through Tech Talk and Analog threads. Setup has been addressed along with some good references to other sites and articles.
Mobile Fidelity Recording
Mobile's orignal approach was to not apply an (re)equalization when transferring from the master tapes, whereas most (all?) "regular" versions were typically equalized for the perceived listening preference of the audience or radio play or to actu...
transformer Hum
Transformer hum is mainly mechanical, usually involving loose core laminations in typical transformers, but can also be loose mounting or "sounding board" affect on chassis, covers or other susceptible components. It occurs because the reversing 6...
