GaN amps: Peachtree or LSA Voyager?
@markmuse  LSA doesn't talk much in their literature about lowering distortion instead mainly focusing on the advantages of GaN.  San Francisco Audio Society liked the amp, Audio Science Review did not.  It will be interesting to read your impres...
Ideas for an amplifier?
I wouldn't worry too much about buying a preowned Cherry amp just because Tommy is no longer with us.  Solid state amps these days are pretty darn reliable and you may very well be able to pick up an amp that has a tube like midrange with a solid ...
GaN amps: Peachtree or LSA Voyager?
@twoleftears  I went back a reread the absolute sound review...and Frank gives a lot of credit to both the differential balanced design and the Exicon power mosfet output transistors...so hopefully Ralph can shed some light on why this might be s...
GaN amps: Peachtree or LSA Voyager?
@markmuse  It would be great if you continue to report back on your experience with the M225s.  Frank Van Alstine is quoted in the Absolute Sound review as saying that one of the goals with this amplifier was to, as much as possible, completely e...
GaN amps: Peachtree or LSA Voyager?
@deludedaudiophile  I guess I've thought of amps as being in several varieties of late... those that are either class a or class a/b operating in class a for a while that are using their class a operation to emphasize the lower orders of harmoni...
GaN amps: Peachtree or LSA Voyager?
@atmasphere    One thing I don't understand from much of the above discussion....  Is it not possible with both Class d and Class A/B amps to engineer the amp to the lowest possible distortion and then add back enough 2nd and 3rd harmonics to giv...
Florida Audio Expo - Budget Room
jpasko01 I suspect you are going to have to call them.  This link says the owners name is John Schunk and his phone number is 727-644-2346.   https://rjsacoustics.com/reviews/ If you do talk to them, please post back whatever you learn.
Salk Veracity ST Speakers
Significant Upgrade (my opinion) I owned the Veracity STs for two years and prior to buying them I heard the Motion 40s many times at BB. The Salks have the highly praised RAAL ribbon along with the Seas midwoofers in a transmission line set up....
The first review on the SPL s1200 amplifier
What I appreciated most about this article is that it got me to thinking about my own preferences.  Like many, I've had a number of systems over the years and usually the changes occurred because the newer gear "sounded better". For example, when...
Speakers: Anything really new under the sun?
Better materials, better measuring tools, better understanding of human preferences, more powerful computers for analysis, more on line reviews and impressions....but in the end it all comes down to how does the system sound to you in your room wi...
Looks like PS Audio has a hit on their hands with the new speaker
Interesting jump....from a $2k speaker to a $28k speaker....I'll bet that doesn't happen very often???
Maggie 1.7i's lack detail. Ideas?
Here is just an example to get your research started....   https://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=179975.msg1900653;topicseen#new
Maggie 1.7i's lack detail. Ideas?
I suspect also that back in 1979, when the maggies were on of only a few panel speakers and sounded so much different than the sealed box speakers being sold that you did have a romantic memory of the sound.   Unfortunately, they sound pretty med...
Maggie 1.7i's lack detail. Ideas?
We need more detail on your room, the setup spacing, type of music, volume, etc., but the 1.7is are really good sounding speakers on most...but not all...types of music.  They must be minimum 3' out from the front wall.  There can't be anything be...
Florida Audio Expo - Budget Room
Shayne...I suspect your room with the Qs was a big surprise to everyone when they learned the price of the system. I had several friends with me that were into music but no sure if they wanted to be into audio and they commented that it was the on...
