Using Maple Butcher Block Under a Turntable
I put mine directly on the top shelf of my rack and the turntable sits directly on top of the block.  My TT is an SME 20/2 which is highly vibration isolated already and has a lot of mass, so this combo works well for me.  I think you will need to...
The Future of HiFI?
Though I will never buy one, this looks like a really nice item.  It fits nicely with the mid-century modern trend that the hipsters are into right now.  That a company like this is making a very nice quality piece of furniture that plays music is...
Phono cable recommendations - high performance good value cable
I bought the Audio Sensibility Statement cable for my SME 20/2 w IV tonearm and have been enjoying the sound very much.  Very detailed sound without any grain or edge.  Some folk hate on cables with silver content in them but to my ears they make ...
Dylan - TROUBLE NO MORE BOOTLEG #13 Released Nov 2017
I bought the vinyl w/2CD version on Amazon for $52 awhile back.  I don't know why it was so cheap but I wasn't going to complain.  It's a great release, though the sound quality on some of the tracks sounds like very good audience recordings rathe...
7" Singles
When I was a kid it's all I could afford, so I would buy them. The first record I ever bought was Elton John's Philadelphia Freedom with a picture sleeve.  I think it even had the lyrics printed on the back.  I must have played it a thousand times...
Upgrading from Integrated Amp to Separates
I have a question about the Lyngdorf amps.  I do not own one, but am intrigued.I recently bought a Audioquest Niagara 7000 power conditioner, and have noticed serious noise reduction and sound improvement from my tube amp and other components.  Wi...
Upgrading from Integrated Amp to Separates
Thanks all for the suggestions so far.  Very interesting! The Lyngdorf sounds interesting but I am skeptical of do-it-all devices promising to solve all room issues and weighing less than 20 lbs.  I would love to audition one but to take a leap lik...
Audioquest Niagara 7000 tested with Power Line Meter
In the June, 2017 issue of Stereophile, there was a head to head comparison of these two units.  I couldn't find it online so I guess it hasn't been posted yet.  As I recall, they gave a slight edge to the Niagara 7000, but it was very close.  The...
Why bogus retail price from some sellers?
Harbeth just raised the price from $2150 to $2390. I purchased a mint dealer demo in rosewood for $1500 plus $50 shipping. So at $1800 for a damaged speaker and $150 for shipping seems outrageous to me!!First of all, you got a great deal on your s...
Why bogus retail price from some sellers?
U.S. MSRP for rosewood is $2390.  $1800 is a fair price, even if they made a mistake on the MSRP.
Audioquest Niagara 7000 tested with Power Line Meter
out of curiosity did each outlet read the same in terms of noise? was one end noisier than the other?Do you mean did all the outlets in the Niagara test the same?If so, I don't know.  I didn't test them all.  But it's an interesting thing to do so...
Audioquest Niagara 7000 tested with Power Line Meter
Of course simply knowing how much noise is eliminated is one indicator of how effective these components are, including power cables.  But the real test is in how good the music sounds.  My experience with the Niagara 7000 is the background is bla...
Is a GREAT turntable under $2000 possible???
To be blunt, NO.  A GREAT turntable is the combination of a lot of well executed engineering, which doesn't come cheap. There are many good to very good turntables for under $2K, however.  More than ever before in my estimation.  You can probably f...
I'd like to hear recommendations for Turntables under $5,000
The Technics SL-1200GAE is very intriguing to me.  I have an SME Model 20/2, which is very nice, but four times the cost of the Technics.  At $4K, with rave reviews, it's worth a look.  Another good one is the Clearaudio Performance.  Great soundi...
SME IV Tonearm and Warped Records
You may be right, but how can you se so sure?  I have followed the set up instructions to the letter, repeated several times, and finally felt like everything was dialed in.  I even exchanged several emails with SME directly.  On the topic of warp...
