Amps which are Great, but either Unknown or Underpriced
So - I'd never heard of Van Alstine or Musical Design and thus explored their sites. Anyone have any first-hand experience with either of these designs? That's what I love about this hobby!
Amps which are Great, but either Unknown or Underpriced
LSA (Living Sounds Audio). I had their Signature hybrid integrated which I had upgraded to a Statement. Simply incredible when compared alongside previous amps I've had from ARC, Rogue, Blue Circle, and Rega.LSA is more known for their affordable ...
Building a system from scratch (other than speakers)
Yes, yes, and yes. Reading Stereophile and Audiogon forums, talking both by email and in-person with audio dealers, meeting with and talking to other audiophiles and with the actual designers and makers (Robert Lee of Acoustic Zen, Duke LeJeune of...
Importance of input tubes to sound quality?
Thank you, atmasphere. I was hoping you'd chime in. And thank you to everyone else, too. Looks like I'll be rolling soon!
Building a system from scratch (other than speakers)
If they’re around, go to various audio stores in your area, especially ones that deal ML’s. Tell them what you have; tell them what listening habits you have; as much as you can, hear things for yourself. Ask if they’ll let you audition a piece fo...
Importance of input tubes to sound quality?
Okay. But how does the sonic sig of input tubes differ from that of output tubes?
How important are speaker cables to the sound emanating from the speakers?
Here's a quick low-budget story that may or may not help out.First off, the system tested:VPI HW-19 Mk 4 turntable with Benz Micro SE cartridgeJolida Mk2 phono stage with upgrade 1LSA Statement integratedAcoustic Zen Adagio speakersClear Day Shotg...
Good looking Towers for < $2000?
@Paraneer -- Fair enough. I respectfully agree to disagree. Yes, your point about actually listening to speakers is accurate. But going off recs and second-hand info can be just as enlightening.
Good looking Towers for < $2000?
@Paraneer - although you make a decent point, you do so in a pretty condescending manner. Yes, the OP is asking for advice from strangers - who may or may not "tell you what they have or want to have". But that may also be the best way for him or ...
Good looking Towers for < $2000?
The Paradigm towers won't let you down. Acoustic Zen Adagios or Triangle Antals are also beautiful and bass-y. As are Trenner and Friedl if you can afford them.
Best speakers for $3000
Whomever recommended the Living Voice speakers is spot on. For what you said is your amp and your listening preference, they should take care of things. Truthfully, so could a pair of Reference 3A Grand Veenas or, rarer still, the Escalante Fremon...
Need small size speakers for fireplace.
Yes, Geoffkait was spot on in recommending the Pioneer SP-BS22 speakers. Andrew Jones of TAD fame designed these and Stereophile raves about them. I bought them and was impressed by what they could do for $129/pair.
Powering Acoustic Zen Adagios
The Adagios seem to work best with tubes. Robert Lee usually uses gear from Triode at shows. I've known listeners who use Rogue with much satisfaction, too. I have an LSA Statement integrated with my Adagios that sounds gorgeous but might be out o...
Good, basic receiver for $500 or so?
And by receiver I also mean processor.
Wireworld Silver Starlight
If you'd bothered to read the articles, some do mention the Redmere amps.
