Greatest debut album +1 for Boston, especially as they had never played a live show before that album was released. But the best had to be the Beastie's "Licensed to Ill"
Cover songs that are better than the originals. @phomchick +1 for The Bad Plus's version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit". It has the controlled chaos that the original strove for but came up short. Also, Phish's version of Deodato's funk version of "Also Sprach Zarathustra (2001)"
Replacing my stand mount speakers These might also be a good find:https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lis97jia-harbeth-30-1-full-rangeHarbeths deliver a deep and engaging soundscape, much like your S4's, but they'll cover more ground across the spectrum.
My daughter practing snare, bells this aft...... +1 on the Adagios - their ribbon tweeter is exceptional on those highs! My Reference 3A Veenas can also project those cymbal nuances with pinpoint accuracy.
Can you live with your current speaker until you die? No. I thought I'd be content with a recently acquired pair of reference 3A Veenas - based on my de Capo BE's I had a while ago. But it they're too warm and dark for my taste. Beautiful imaging; just not what I'm looking for.maybe Spatials in my f...
Speakers for Hegel H-160 I had a 160 for about a year or so and ran several monitors with it. Elac B6, ASW 110's, and Dynaudios. The Hegels a good match for whatever you want to drive. Focus on getting a good pair of monitors and let the Hegel take care of the rest.
Efficient 2 way bookshelf/monitors under 2k Reference 3A's are designed to be run with tube components. They respond beautifully to low wattage amps. However, trying to find a used pair of the de Capos is tough. People tend to hang on to them.
Parasound HCA-2200 - Should I repair, or sell? I've had my local electronics repair place fix a number of units over the years. Their $40 bench fee is applied to whatever cost of repair, which usually isn't much. See if your shop will apply their bench fee to their repair. You have a well-revi...
The "how many reviews it got" rule There are so many good component manufacturers that get little press/reviews. Some out of choice; others out of circumstance. Take von Schweikert speakers or Daedalus speakers. Beautifully made and beautifully sounding speakers that rarely, if eve...
Best bookshelf speakers The LSA 1 is a beautifully sounded, warm speaker with many accolades. Look it up on the forums here for corroboration. +1 on the Ascend. There’s also a pair of Silverlines here that will match your needs, though they may be too small for your room:...
Looking for an amp....Opinions about Odyssey or Bel Canto audio anyone? You can't go wrong with either. My Bel Canto customer service was fantastic, and talking with Klaus was engaging and fun. They're both well-made and fantastic sounding. Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
The "how many reviews it got" rule ^^^^^True. I can't speak for anyone else, but I have to remind myself every now and then that just because a particular component doesn't make a "Recommended Components" listing doesn't mean it can't hang with the ones that did. Perhaps it just di...
Recommend Affordable Integrated Amps (Solid State or Tube) +1 for the Parasound. They make good stuff and the Halo is legendary
Recommend Affordable Integrated Amps (Solid State or Tube) Based on your listening preferences and speakers (89db/8ohms) and budget for an integrated with a built-in phono stage, the LSA Statement comes to mind, as does just about any Luxman integrated.
The "how many reviews it got" rule It's akin to writing a reference letter or a letter of recommendation. If a student asks me for one and I have negative things to say, I'll pass on writing the letter rather than writing a negative letter. If I really have to write one, I'll couch... |
