Is the idea of audiophile listening a dying concept as boomers die off?
@rcm1203 I know; I can be an ageist ass sometimes. But I feel people are fossilizing themselves when they write off contemporary music. Still, thanks for the reminder.
Do You Have to Play a Component to Warm it Up?
Agreed. Although resistors and capacitors do have to come up to temperature. I would argue for leaving the transport on continuously. The most stressful time for the component is actually turning it on.

@moto_man  "In 20 years, is anyone going to want to listen to hip-hop, rap, Taylor Swift, Steve Aoki, etc.?" A. Conflating individual artists with complete genres is a fallacy. Hip hop and rap have been around for 40 years now, give or take, and ...
Why I don't hear bass drums on Jazz LPs?
Hi all - jazz drummer here. What @bdp24 wrote is spot on. In a jazz combo, I almost never keep time with the 18" bass drum; it serves as an accent piece while my hi-hat is the most metronomic instrument, followed closely by my ride. When I do emph...
Seeking wisdom - high efficiency, low- to mid-db, music-first speakers
I have the Denton 80's as well; they're good for their size but don't punch above it. I def. need a sub when I use them.
Antique Sound Lab worth getting repaired?
@viridian Interesting; I found the original ad for my unit: "This ASL Phono Lux DT has the Altec 4722 matched units, and Riken ohm resistors. Also features a big Jensen 4 pole electrolytic cap. This mod is a $400 upgrade. The unit is stock otherw...

+1 for the de Capo and the Usher. Both have what you need in terms of high efficiency and good presents at low volumes. And of course, triangle excels at that sort of projection.
Antique Sound Lab worth getting repaired?
@viridian  thank you for the feedback and advice. I wanted to clarify that I mentioned the tube upgraded because that's an upgrade I didn't want to go to waste, not that I thought it had anything to do with the difference and performance. Anyhow, ...

Those audiophiles who can visit Axpona and similar shows seem both highly dedicated to the hobby and have money and time to burn. That's a hallmark of an older generation.   Plus, music development, production, and consumption is changing - vinyl...
Does it have to sound good for you to like it?
Great question. Over the years there have been several LPS I've listened to less and less simply because they don't sound that good. If I can't locate or a Ford a better quality pressing, that I usually will just listen to that via streaming.
Starting Over and I need your help
Your amp puts out 6.5W. Even with a 94db speaker, that's still pretty low.
Best 12AU7?
Brent Jessee and/or the Tube Store will help you.
Would you still pay $10k or more for a turntable not full analog front end these days ?
@testpilot Great point. Vinyl was affordable and economically accessible up until about 2010 or so, and since then things have gotten way out of hand. If I were new and getting into vinyl, especially as a young generation well aware of finances, c...
So, a reviewer just said something I need to talk about.
That first acoustic guitar of Yes' "Starship Troopers" is one of the most 3D, "Strings had real body" moments I can think of through a good system. They hover in the air. But that can't be reproduced through a basic or car system.
Differences between Harbeth, Spendor, Graham, etc. ?
I think the main differences can be attributed to their names: Harbeth - named after the brother/sister (Harry and Beth) who first designed and built their bookshelf speakers in their uncle's lonely Wessex manor house.  Graham - named after fo...
