Inactive speakers in the room...any effect? Eldartford,Actually, they don't act like passive radiators, they act like bass traps.
Inactive speakers in the room...any effect? Eldartford,If you have a pair of old speakers with a 10" or larger woofer, put them at the front corners behind the main speakers, make sure they are not connected to any amp, short the speaker terminals with bare wires, and play some bass heavy m...
TV ignorance Abe,I respectfully disagree with sit and watch strategy. Technology always advances. TV is just like computers, no matter when you buy; it will be obsolete in a few years. Suppose the industry did come out with a totally new standard 3 years from ...
Best Isolation Devices? Before spending big bucks on audiophile grade isolation device, I highly recommend you try putting a half-inflated bicycle inner tube under your CD player and preamp. I have a 12 one under my Sony DVP-S9000ES and it sounded like a different playe...
TV ignorance If I were buying a 42" plasma, I would choose the Sony KDE-42XBR950KIT. It is the first plasma I have seen that does not look like a plasma. I first saw it a few months ago in the Sony store at the Moscone Center in San Fransico while I was attend...
SACD or vinyl? Looking for great sound and mid $$ Since you like jazz and classical, I would suggest you go with vinyl because most of the great performances are available on vinyl not on SACD.

Down to the Final Two -- Dreadnaught vs. Titan Tdavism,I can't speak for the Theta processors but the Dreadnaught is very well made. I bought mine over 4 years ago and never have any problem. Dreadnaught does run hot, especially with all five channels running. If you put it in a closed environ...
Down to the Final Two -- Dreadnaught vs. Titan I have a Dreadnaught and love it. Never heard the Tatin though. Why don't you consider a used Dreadnaught. The II might be a little bit more powerful but for your setup, either one will be much more than enough. Just make sure you don't get the sil...
Do Sound Labs play deep bass in large rooms? Unsound,If you can't afford them, don't listen. The upgrade bug will haunt you for the next 10 years. They are that good.
How often to Audiophiles upgrade their equipment? I usually do one major upgrade a year around my birthday which is coming in about a month (lucky me). What I upgrade really depends on what I want to improve. This year I am going to upgrade two items:I have a number of edge-warped records that ar...
A real dumb Tube question Yes in deed and they glow in different color depending on the type. Most are yellow or orange red but some (e.g. 211/VT4C) glow like a small light bulb.
Tube Preamp with "pass through" for HT option? The BAT's unity gain feature only gives you a fixed gain setting for any input. That allows you to adjust volume level from the processor but it is not a HT pass through because signal still goes through all the preamp amplification circuits.
Any Brooklyn, NY 'philes with XLR/RCA adapters??? Do you have Sam Ash in Brooklyn? I bought mine from their Westbury store on Long Island. |
