Speakers with Most good reviews in last ten years I think the Spica TC-50 and TC-60 were very well reviewed in their time but they still compete with todays designs. I like both of mine especiallyl with my Dynaco ST-70 tube amp. The TC-60 has much more bass response but both are great speakers an...
A low cost way to try phono once again? Buy a used Rega p1. They usually come with an arm and cartridge for very little money. For phono preamps try the NAD PP-2 phono preamp for moving magnet and low output moving coils. I have two of these phono preamps and they work very well and are...
Tube amp comparison I own a Dynaco ST-70, I have owned a McIntosh MC 30 and I have heard the Marantz 8b. The marantz sounded the best to me. The Dynaco was the cheapest of the 3 but still sounds decent. shay
how to change the tonearm cable? Im sure Cardas or one of the other cable manufacturers makes a plug in tonearm cable for your particular arm. Spend the money and avoid the hassle or possible damage to the arm wires.
Phono Pre Kit Builders:Thoughts & Recommendations I have not built any phono preamps but have u considered the Jolida tube phono preamp. It is 495 dollars new and has adustments for different cartridges. I have thought about buying one myself. Shay
Need recommendations on speaker cables I like Cardas speaker wire. It is a little bit stiff because of the big gauge size but it does improve the sound over other speaker cables. You can usually find it at a good price on Audiogon much less than the 1000 dollars u want to spend. Shay
Line array speakers I like line arrays . They are the cleanest loudest speakers available, great for big rooms like yours. I like INFINITY, Pipedreams, and the new Scaena speakers reviewed in absolute sound magazine. They are all expensive, but the best always is. Shay
transport tube amp Always better safe than sorry, Pack the tubes seperately.
Can someone help out a newbe? The cheapest excellent turntable is the original AR XA and the later EB-101 or ES-1. They are going for very reasonable prices and they sound very good. The cheapest good tube amp is the old Dynaco ST-70. You can buy a modern copy all new for arou...
Measure capacitance, inductance and resistance There are some multimeters that measure all 3 at a reasonable price. Try MCM electronics or parts express. I think they both sell these meters. As for me I have a digital multimeter and a dedicated capacitance meter. I do not have an inductance me...
What are the advantages of a line array design? Each driver in a line array has less distortion because it shares the load with the rest of the drivers in the line array. Some of the best and most expensive speakers are line arrays. It is a very good technique to insure low distortion at high d...
Integrated amplifier recommendations, Please I would recommend two integrated amps I like both of them solid state surprisingly. One is the old Mcintosh MA 5100 which u can find in good shape used for around 400 dollars the other if u can stretch your budget a bit is the Naim Nait 5i. This i...
Any one ever replace caps or modify there Xovers I have been building and modifying speakers for about 20 years. One constant I have found is that most not all speaker manufacturers 'engineer' crossovers that are too complicated and use too many parts. This not only makes the speaker power hungr...
Looking to get back into Vinyl. I recommend 3 turntables as these are my favorites and I have owned a lot of different turntables. The Linn LP 12 used in mint condition, The rega P1 with rega arm, the AR EB101 with either the original arm or an aftermarket arm. The 500 dollars w...
seeking turntable recommendations In your price range I would recommend a used Linn Sondek in mint condition or an AR EB101 with the original arm or an aftermarket arm. These 2 tables along with the Rega tables are the most affordable these days which still sound excellent. In my ... |
