Warm CD player for older CDs with digital glare? I have found that when I plug my cd player directly into my modified Dynaco and use the Dynacos volume control and eliminate the preamp all cds sound natural. You would be surprised how much of that glare comes from the preamp- tube or solid state...
Cartridge Quandary, two tables four cartridges. I would buy a brand new Grado black cartridge for about 60 dollars new at needle doctor. It is a much better cartridge than any of the old ones u have listed and u wont need to buy a new stylus. Hope this helps PS It is available in both P mount a...

A good Preamp for ST70 How about Dynacos own pas 2 or pas 3. There are plenty of them available and they sound good too.
McIntosh Preamp Both the solid state and tube Macs are known to sound good. The tradeoffs are the usual ones. Solid state has better more powerful bass while tubes have that midrange magic so many people love. You cant go wrong either way but the tube Mac will ke...
need advice for budget preamp for Rega p3-24... Try the NAD PP-2. It accepts MC and MM cartridges and it is very quiet and very cheap. I think it sells for 149 dollars brand new and used it goes for about 70 dollars. That should help your budget.
American made cartridge anyone? How about Stanton/Pickering and Shure cartridges? I believe they are american. The Zu cartridges are modified Denon (japan) cartridges. How about Cardas I think they make a cartridge in the US - a very good one at that. I hope this helps u. shay

Phono stage advice Out of the 3 choices u give the allnic is my favorite. But I would look for a tube phono stage if u can find one used. It may work better than all of them.
Sibilance issues with vinyl rig I would try a tube phono stage instead of the simaudio moon solid state unit and I would experiment with different cartridges, some cartridges have much more sibilance and are thus much harsher than others. You have to experiment until u get the s...
What is “warmth” and how do you get it? I am currently using a Dynaco ST-70 amp unmodified and a Hafler DH-110 solid state preamp and it gives me plenty of warmth. Instruments and voices sound natural not strained and I found I preferred this sound to the all solid state sound setup I h...
Help me resurrect my AR-90s You may be able to get the original drivers reconed and refoamed. That is a better alternative than using different drivers. AR made their own woofers and they are a much better quality than aftermarket replacements. Try googling speaker repair an... |
