Resonant Frequency Tracking Problems please help
If your preamp or receiver has a low filter it will eliminate most of that extra excursion.
Good musical pre for $1000 used--match to McIntosh
How about a used Mac preamp. They sound good and are very reliable. Some are priced much less than 1000 dollars and still compare favorably to todays preamps.
opinions on favorite cartridge
You are right. I wish I had your problem. All of your equipment is very good and only you can decide which cartridge tonearm combo sounds best to u. Trust your ears because noone else has your identical taste in music.
Best Pre with a built-n phono section?
The Hafler DH-110 and DH-101 both have a superb phono section in stock form and they can be modified by Musical Concepts and Van Alstine to be even better. They are also very cheap to buy and they are solid state so no heat involved. The other sug...
Trouble with ballance pot.
Radio shack is what I use but I have heard that Caig is the best stuff. I have fixed really bad volume and balance pots with the Radio Shack contact cleaner and Lube and I do recommend it.
Best McIntosh Tap for Dynaudio Confid 5 Speakers
You should try every tap on a tube amp to determine which sounds the best to you. Sometimes the best tap is not the one you would think is the best. I have 4, 8, and 16 ohm taps on my amp and whenever I get a new speaker I experiment with all the ...
Pls recommend a tupe pre under 2500 for my system.
Before u spend your money check out the Musical Concepts website to see their Chameleon preamp. It is in your price range and can be configured with many different tube plug in circuit boards. It is a very good sounding preamp and is in your price...
What are your favorite phono cartridges?
Koetsu black in moving coils. Grado (any), Sonus (any), Grace F9E and F9R, Shure m97xe and V15 type V Mxr, most Sumiko moving coils and moving magnets. These are all my favorites over the years and I have owned many cartridges but I found out u do...
help with a tubed integrated or pre / amp combo
How about prima luna, mystere, and Jolida. They all make good tube amps in that price range. They all have informative websites as well. Also I forgot about rogue audio as well. If u like vintage tubes, Mcintosh and Dynaco make very good tube amps...
is turntable isolation required?
If your needle jumps when u walk across the floor or you hear acoustic feedback then u need some type of isolation. If not then your present set up is all u need. Sometimes people tend to go to extremes and this is overkill and expensive at that. ...
Once again...looking for a "tube like" SS preamp
Try a Dynaco pas 2,3, or 3x. They are cheap and have great tube sound. If u dont like it u can always sell it. Mcintosh solid state equipment sounds tubey also. It is about the closest I have found to tube sound. Of course Mcintosh tube equipment ...
Hum issue - driving me more crazy
I had the same issue with my Dynaco pas 3 preamp. All I had to do to eliminate the hum was to twist the rca connectors from the phono in the socket until it made good contact. Try this first with all of your rca plugs and see if that solves the pr...
Entry level recommendations???
Even though u r entry level u sound like u want high end sound. I would recommend a used Linn turntable and the Jolida tube phono preamp. I think that would be your best combination for the lowest price. If u want cheaper then a used rega turntabl...
Building bedroom system.....speakers for it?
Those are all good suggestions. I would like to suggest one more the Spica TC-50. It is small and images very well.
I'm looking for good pre amp with bass & treble
I agree with the Mcintosh guys, they are excellent preamps and always have good tone controls.
