Does It have to be loud?
@gdhal Since you have a dB SPL meter it is a very simple matter to check your own speakers.Keep cranking it until you get the meter reflecting sustained levels at 115 db SPL. If it sounds clear and clean and undistorted (but obviously very loud) t...
Does It have to be loud?
@gdhal The mathematics you use are correct. However speakers do not behave linearly after a certain point. Worse speakers distort terribly. That point is surprisingly low. Soundstage do NOT test speakers above 95 dB SPL as a level above that will ...
How does a Transport effect sound?
It should not. Bits are bits. However, noise from servo motors (reading the disk) can induce modulation distortion back through the power supply and create a jittery input to the internal DAC. There is also logic induced modulation that may affect...
DAC recommendation
Lucky for you - pretty much any DAC in recent years will better those old players. Take your pick - Stereophile has a Class A and A+ list. Benchmark, Mytek, Bricasti, Bryston, Ayre, Chord and Weiss...are places to start. All are excellent although...
Speaker Break-In - What Physically Changes During Break-In To Enable Better Sound?
@audiozen This is a speaker forum not a car forum. There are actually no pistons in a speaker. I hope this makes sense.
Does It have to be loud?
70dB isn’t  realistic. Kind of the level you would listen to the radio. If it doesn’t sound good any louder then there is something badly wrong with the setup.Single musicians Average dB Peak dBViolin/viola (near left ear) 85 - 105 116Violin/viola...
Does It have to be loud?
It is great advantage if you only need 70 dB. It greatly reduces the cost of a system. Unfortunately it only leaves you with 80dB peaks less 30dB noise floor = 50 dB dynamic range but it does offer an advantage in that almost any system will do a ...
Speaker Break-In - What Physically Changes During Break-In To Enable Better Sound?
@audiozen No worries. The videos I linked to are about ATC testing process. I know ATC are delighted that most manufacturers use mass produced OEM Seas drivers. ATC would not have an enjoyable niche producing higher quality parts in house for high...
Does It have to be loud?
Well duh! The big difference between ho hum run of the mill Bose waveguides and a great high end system is exactly what they are trying to demo - clarity and great low distortion full range sound at realistic dynamic live music levels.Big face pal...
Will I benefit from a new DAC that can upscale to 192
Lots of folks using Roon find that upsampling sounds better. Ultimately it depends on your DAC quality. Many DACs benefit from upsampling. It makes no difference for my DAC so I just set Roon to stick to native sample rates of the original file.Ji...
Pioneer Plasma Monitor
It will likely have lost about 1/3 of the brightness over the years. Otherwise a great TV.
Speaker Break-In - What Physically Changes During Break-In To Enable Better Sound?
@kosst_amojan Did you watch the videos? You might learn something if you did.Not all speakers are just thrown together using OEM parts and go out the door with only a go no go test. Some drivers are rigorously built and stress tested individually ...
New Tweak --- Its Fantastic
David,OLED TVs recalibrate when switched off. This is especially a big factor when very new. The screen contrast is greatly affected by the automatic calibration procedure at least initially. Big face palm moment!
Upgrading from andras
Have you noticed the mid range suck out? Perhaps this is something that fits your taste? It means the speaker is rather overly polite - trumpet will lack the usual forward character and violin will be muted.https://www.stereophile.com/content/eggl...
Critique my setup
+1 speakers are weakest link. Not knowing your tastes it is hard to make suggestions. Go out and listen. With tubes you need to carefully match speakers as dips in impedance will modulate the response when coupled with a high output impedance tube.
