Why are hi-end active monitors not more popular?
Tim916,Interesting article. I knew that IMD distortion was much lower in active speakers but I did not know that the difference was HUGE (for those who do not know ....IMD or intermodulation distortion is the worst kind of distortion and it has ab...
Monitor Audio Made in China?
Lots of gear is made in China. Many Hi fi brands are now owned by Chinese entrepreneurs...Wharfedale, AudioLab, Mission and Quad are now manufactured in Shenzhen, China.
New Speaker Purchase
There are many excellent speakers out there. Given your description I would stay away from ported speakers (although some are very good) - it is safer to go for a sealed box; this usually gives you the least problems relating to bass masking the l...

AktchiYou need to go bsck earlier in the thread - I list the pros.Active speakers is not the same as putting a single passive amp in a box. For example the Woofer will be driven by a separate amp of say 275 watts, the mid range is driven with a se...

Breaking: Paramount/Dreamworks go HDDVD exclusive
This is indeed breaking news. So far this year, Blu-Ray is outselling HD-DVD 2 to 1 - so it was starting to look distinctly bad for HD-DVD; available content seemed to be more of a factor in sales than price. It may have cost $100 million to Paramo...
Componets first, cables second?
Paul,I respect your right to diagree and to add your own worthy opinions to this thread. I see no point in making this a pissing contest. If you re-read my comments I think it is possible we do agree, I just don't rate the cable differences as bei...
Componets first, cables second?
There are a myriad of perfectly rational and sound reasons why one particular cable will work better than another.I would like to see this myriad of explanations and data to prove it. Perhaps I live in a hole and have missed it. From down here in...
WAF - Wife Acceptance Factor
"Wife" is the key operative - acceptance factor in all areas is multiplied by a huge factor once you become married...and it ain't a positiive factor either! I reckon each kid adds a significant multiplier too!!
$40.000 speaker advise. Check out my list
I am not sure how suggesting other speakers helps Maxx1973 narrow things down. I would like to know more about what Maxx is looking for in a speaker...so far we have heard "more bass"....anything else? I assume you like the Revels because you own ...
How many more years before cd's become passe?
Interesting article. LP's were eclipsed in 1988. The CD will soon be eclipsed by downloads or perhaps they already are?
Suggestions: Best speaker/sub combo for Desktop PC
Chuck Ainlay endorses NHT MOO and SOO...look him up on google. He is a well known sound engineer in Nashville.
Componets first, cables second?
Bowbow, I would hear no difference in cabling with those [Shadorne's] components either...That has been my experience - no difference. My system reflects that. I figured some people would laugh but then again people tend to laugh at those who act ...
Componets first, cables second?
The arguments in favor of expensive cables here are the same ones my high end hi-fi dealer uses and even "Best Buy" applies this same argument, although at a much lower tier of cabling. This argument carries a lot of weight in the audiophile biz a...
