Soundstage wide and deep but not at all tall. . .
I don't sit with my head by the wall Sorry - I went by the photos of your system. I would be concerned with what appears to be the placement of the listening position in the photo. That you have treated the wall behind the listener should help.
Best single-malt Scotch...
When I lived in Scotland there was no "best malt" - variety is the spice of life - I'd have a half a dozen bottles from speyside (from towns where we played golf) - another half dozen from the west coast and then several from the Islands up north ...
What is the ideal High Freq extension?
My opinion is that the behaviour up to 12 Khz is much more important than between 12 and 17 Khz and frankly above 17Khz it is mostly for the "bats & dogs".All too often I hear tweeter grain and harshness from compression at realistic levels. A...
Lack of depth problem
I have some Wagner where the chorus sounds like it is in the next street good tube amps with good output transformers, also have depth. Good point - the output transformer coupled with speaker impedance variation with frequency will generally hav...
Angling speakers up instead of high stands
Why not simply try it and see.Of course too much up angle is going to cause increased ceiling reflections but every room/speaker/listening position is different. In general music sounds better with tweeters/midrange AT or ABOVE ear level. This is w...
How to clean pots and switches properly?
Once things warm up, the volume control seems to operate fine. This does not sound like a pot. I would suspect power supply rail caps more than pots in this instance.
Soundstage wide and deep but not at all tall. . .
Don't sit with your back to a wall - i.e. head within two feet - it will collapse the soundstage and completely mess up the bass. It is like listening in a cave or tunnel - sur eit may sound vague and wide but imagine using the left over cardboard...
Mogami balanced cables .... or another brand?
Mogami are nice quality. I use Mogami and Yorkville and Mogami are better built but roughly twice the price.
Speakers secured with bungee cord
Sure it will work provided the stand is anchored to the floor. If not then the speaker may get injured when bungee jumping. Also if you treasure your speakers- don't let the wife select the length of bungee cord.
Lack of depth problem
they all roll off around 1 Khz - well before a dome tweeter can take over What I meant to say is that the horizontal dispersion rolls off. (this is caused by beaming)Another way round this is to use cones that flex allowing the centre part of the...
Lack of depth problem
However, I do hear vocal moved to the back and drummer to the front as Shardone pointed out. Good catch! Then you can do several things.1. Speakers closer together and away from side walls.2. Sit much closer to the speakers (or bring the speakers...
Wilson MAXX musicallity and sound
I am missing the liquid and icy sound of high end audio with the following expensive combination . How can I improve achieve that dream sound? Of course you are. This system is pretty much SOTA. It won't give you warm sloppy bass or icy sound. In...
Driven to Tears
Loud bombastic and energetic music never fails to lift my mood to total joy and exhilaration. ToP cranked! Akin to an open air sports car or sport bike screeching along winding mountain roads in full summer at outrageous speeds - it says we are al...
Lack of depth problem
Vet,Your JMLabs tend to have a dip in the upper midrange off axis - if you trust these measurements - so this region will be particularly weak from your seated position: well back where you likely get quite a lot of reflected energy of which a lo...
Efficient floorstndrs. to reach above furniture
Stuart - then horns are a natural choice with bass bins being the most efficient and with corner Klipsch type horns getting the very loudest possible for modest power. The issue will be suitable placement of corner horns and size - the Klipsch RF-...
