Speakers that disappear
Castle Acoustics models with the top firing driver. Yes indeed they do a good disappearing act. They were good. I heard they also went out of business - so disappeared that way too.
paranoid listener-damaging speakers?
On a small two way when it sounds really "loud" then there is usually distortion either on the system or the recording. It is not well known but undistorted music can be played much louder without fatigue or sounding loud than distorted music many...
Harwood Flooring Information For Dedicated Room
There is a special underlay product that reduces noise and is used in appartment buildings - I'd recommend that to dampen vibration - it is expensive though and the floor will need to be glued down. I think a live end can sound nice if you have an...
Define
In a 2 way system where the drivers are not time aligned, is it, for the purposes of measuring distance to the acoustical center, more useful to use the woofer or the tweeter? Is this a Voight-Kampff test to detect if you are an audiophile?
Sony X55-ES CD player... thoughts?
I had a Sony TAN80ES amp for a few years too - there was nothing written about it either but it was a solid amplifier that performed well, IMHO. I think some people just assume all Sony gear to be crap but it isn't necessarily always the case. The...
Sony X55-ES CD player... thoughts?
I am with you. I find the differences in digital gear is subtle - they are there but these differences tend to be dwarfed by individual recording quality (good CD versus bad CD). The difference between a $300 player and a $10,000 player is much le...

What is your favorite type of tweeter?
no one has commented on electrostatic tweeters. why ? Perhaps because that is a major problem with large flat panels - being the opposite of a point source they suffer from severe beaming issues that will cause "comb filtering" in what is heard.
Holographic imaging
It is a fact that some people hear pitch better than others, but from what you are saying, none of this has any bearing on your 'phenomena'. Yes but it is also a fact that we ALL hear pitch or frequencies more accurately than just about anything ...
Article in WSJ about compressed dynamic range
Unsound - isn't it strange that they keep master tapes pure and uncompressed but we won't be ever able to hear them because of this mentality? It is so sad... Perhaps some studio rats might pipe in, but it's my understanding that the process used ...
Interconnect cable upgrade disapointment
Perhaps I should demo some higher level audioquest and a different line of cables. I will make a trip to my local dealer. FWIW - you should NOT expect to find a substantial difference in one good cable to another more expensive good cable if your...
? Modded Oppo 983 ?
Mjcmt,Let us know how the DAC1 sounds - can you hear a solid imprvement or not? I note that Benchmark's DAC1 has a few years under its belt and yet lives on with high resale value - an almost certain sign of a good product. (I avoid bleeding egde ...
musicality and dynamics without enhancements
the term "musical" cannot refer to an audio component. an audio component is not an instrument. it is a reproducer, inaccurate though it may be". Mr T - why so Black and White today when you are nornally in the middle? For sure equipment that adds...
Holographic imaging
I've read many posts where requests have been made to explain cable "technology", so I don't agree that it's been given a pass Yes but there is always an army of followers out there ready to jump to the defense of even the most dubious scientific...
Holographic imaging
That's not an attack. That's due diligence. Good point but why are some things allowed to go without any demand for due diligence - most cables "technology" for that matter - that was kind of what I meant to imply but you are right to correct me.
