Best high end monitors?
Currently trying JM Focal Electra 1007 BE's. Don't have the sub(s) hooked up yet, but find the tweeter a little forward and the image a little smallish for my taste Try something with a soft dome tweeter and definitely go for a sealed box. Someth...
"Fun" Speaker As An Alternative To Revel Salon I
do you have a sub?
What channels are heard in a comercial theater??
They use speaker arrays to get a more even soudn experience through the large theatre. Speakers will most likely be horns (some dipole some direct). The sound is surround processed for the array from the soundtrack. This part will be customized to...
Gain Pop....causes??
Strange - this would more likely be a pot issue. Pots can be quite variable in relative change for a given rotation at the very lowest end of their scale. It is quite possible that accuphase C200 came with different pots throughout their manufactu...

Dirty Pot?How old is the amp?
How to go from RCA to XLR?
My thanks to Shadorne for calling this paper to my attention. You're welcome - Bill Whitlock used to work at Capitol Records - he is a member of IEEE and AES. What he says is obviously designed to help raise awareness and promote Jensen products ...
JL Audio f112 blown speaker?
After sending in my subwoofer to JL Audio they tracked down the problem to a preamplifier component in the sub. I beat the odds and got two of them with the same exact issue in a row. Sounds like they changed supplier or got a bad batch. These th...
High End jargon; your take
Now we are getting somwhere! ...somewhere between Grace Jones and Alison Moyet possibly?
2-way vs. 3-way
Paul,I understand you prefer two way for all applications because of the one less crossover - less compromise - that makes sense - speakers are often a balance of compromises - like how do you place the crossover away from teh critical midrange if...
High End jargon; your take
I third Rodman's comments - spot on - exactly right - that is just how it all sounds! Well said! Although a high Q system (underdamped) can sound pleasant (with plenty of bass for a small WAF friendly design) it will not convey the lower octaves c...
Synth/Electronic LP recommendations
Harold Faltermeryer, Thomas Dolby, Trevor Horn, Alex Sadkin, Robert Miles...Great thread.
Synth/Electronic LP recommendations
I am surprised I don't see Wendy Carlos - now that is going back to synth roots - remember Clockwork Orange! Also no mention of Depeche Mode (Vince Clarke) and his subsequent work Alison Moyet (Yaz). And Human League - classic stuff - especialy th...
2-way vs. 3-way
Duke,Thanks for your comments. I agree that things have improved since this landmark design. One thing I was curious as to what is the difference between a flat chested bi-radial horn and a Dolly Parton bi-radial horn ;-)Does one horn sound more c...
Basic electrical questions.
Al,You are correct about ground loops - usually ground and neutral are connected at the electrical panel. If you have different equipment plugged in to different locations and then chained together for audio purposes there is indeed a greater risk...
budget lcd or plasma: 720p good enough?
The pixel count is the most important. Not all TV's cover the full 1920 x 1080 which you need for full BD quality.Plasma is way better than LCD ( I have both )
