Negative Feedback a deal killer?
It all depends whether you like distortion. Appropriate use of negative feedback has been conclusively & scientifically proven to reduce distortion. Therefore, if you like distortion then you will not like negative feedback.
High End Audio and Your hearing as you get older
Ballan,Thanks for the TED link to Evelyn Genie. I hope to meet her one day - inspiring. I noticed they have a video with Benjamin Zander speaking about passion. Having met Benjamin several years ago I am sure that is well worth watching too.
down firing or front firing sub?
Downfiring gets the maximum room loading/efficiency and minimizes the audibility of higher harmonics (due to distortion).
Choosing between ATC or Emerald Physics
The amp was selected thinking as able to fight with any difficult load, it has 570 watts in 8 Ohms, more than enough to drive the ATC's SCM-19. That is more than enough power. Go for ATC if you like Dynaudio sound over laid back sound. The ATC wi...
Is this clipping?
If it sounds great at any and all volumes then there is no reason why it cannot play rock. If it is clipping on rock then it will clip on jazz too - if you play loud enough.
In Room Frequency Response Measurements
Smoothly rolled off treble. I listen far field.
Best rock/jazz speaker under $10k used
Dynaudios are a great choice (above). Also look at ATC or PMC - ATC 50's or 100's (if you really want to shake the walls yet still have a great panel like midrange clarity for vocals)ATC are installed in Ronnie Scott's jazz club yet rockers like A...
It's Hammond B3 Organ Day
Check out this great video from a legend - Brian Auger - his playing just flows so naturally.
24p vs 48 hz or 60hz for video playback?
If it was shot in 24p then you need to play it back in 24p for the best results. If you have a projector or TV that can interpolate frames then let the projector or TV do that. With interpolated frames you can get 24p to look eerily realistic - so...
One Super high end cable or mid level set?
I suppose the question is can an 'incredible' never to be upgraded single cable produce a more magical ( or even equal) soundNo. Stick with appropriate decent quality cables and save your money for improvements to gear and room acoustics.two cent...
Calling Harbeths 40.1 owners
40.1 are not the same warm sound so make sure to audition.
Gallo 3.1 sounds slow and veiled...why?
yawn - I am not at all surprised. Well designed active speakers are indeed tight powerful and completely integrated. They will usually trounce all but the best passive designs. Of course their clarity is clinical sounding and understandably not to...
What are we listening to tonight?
Tom Waits "In Shades" from Heartattack and Vine. This is pure genius.I highly recommend the album - extremely well recorded.Enjoy1
Active speakers with 15" woofers, need a list
Westlake, Meyer, Genelec, PMC, ATC...Many of the designs in the top studios around the world use pro speakers that are active and with 15" woofer(s) for the bass. It is neither a cheap nor an aesthetic approach but if you want to make absolutely n...
This is no joke.
I suspect you accidentally sat on one of them and it is the rearward anamorphic stimulation that has you so excited. Try wriggling your hips and see how it sounds.
