What monitors sound OK on a bookshelf?
Try Genelec 8040, 8050 or Focal Twin 6 Be - all are designed to sit on a studio meter bridge and should sound great on a book shelf.I have the Genelec 8020b as office desktop speakers and they are without parallel for their size (if you like preci...
Best speaker in the US $ 30-45.000,00 range
Frank the OP gave a shortlist - how did this get so far off topic - oh of course this is Audiogon and we always go off topic!
computer isolation
As for the OP's question, there are probably more important things to try to optimize in you computer audio rig.Exactly my point. The extent to which vibrations affect electronics has been greatly exaggerated due to people's experience with tubes...
Song covers that are better than the originals
Rascal Flatts version of Tom Cochrane's Life is a HighwayThey are very tight and Jim Riley does a great job of giving it a lilt (shuffle feel).
Best speaker in the US $ 30-45.000,00 range
I concur with Trelja - the Sashas are a good choice if you like precise sound - an exception in the Wilson line, which is normally colored by a house sound that leans towards heavier resonant bass (especially in the WP line). Frankly, the others w...
computer isolation
Unlikely unless your laptop has tubes or uses a stylus to read a vinyl groove. Modern electronics is not micro-phonic. Frankly, if it was a problem then passive speakers would not work as the crossover would pick up vibration.Just another urban le...
Should Equalizers make a comeback?
Parametric EQ is useful in the bass to help tame room modes. Otherwise I think tone controls are all that is needed at home - and then only used sparingly to tweak for the room and setup.
Active Vs. Passive
To clarify, I'm very familiar with active speakers Do you sell active speakers?
Best surprisingly good value component
I doubt many people will have owned and sold 11 DACs and then sold the last one they preferred the most because the wife did not use it.
Benchmark DAC-1 Get The Most Out Of Your DAC-1
My DAC1 is rev. G and is free from mentioned problems.Ditto here - mine is a rev. G and out of the box it sounds great - although I have never tried the RCA outs and I run it variable.
Active Vs. Passive
Just picked up a pair of Genelec 8020B's for use at the office with my 4G 32GB iPhone as a source (9000+ tracks). I checked it out in a pro audio music store and was astonished how well they performed. I had looked and listened to Audioengine A5's...
Can the Harbeth 40.1's boggie ?????
Yes it seems that Harbeth designs vary a lot from model to model and the 40.1 is not the star in their line up - I'd say the Compact 7ES-3 is their best at the moment.
Active Vs. Passive
This has been discussed before. They are better because you remove the passive crossover. They are better because each amplifier drives one speaker driver over a narrow bandwidth (much easier than driving the entire 10Hz to 20 Khz range). The topo...
Are my ears just fooling me?
David,Indeed that is a great recording.
Best Rock Drummers
Polyrhythmic demonstration by the Hulk!Be wary it starts slow (demonstrating great groove and feel) and builds. After 6 minutes of drum solo, he jumps up, bows, wipes off the sweat, and he immediately launches into a cool groove. I have seen this ...
