Do you ever doubt you ears ?
Yes absolutely! I very much doubted my ears on occasion only last night, after many many years, my wife told me she no longer had a headache! Bad a boom.

This is exactly why I don't use a center channel for home theater. I really don't believe that it's necessary for a listening position between the main speakers. Agreed - a center is not necessary. It is only a benefit when you have listeners out...
active speakers, Paradise? Trouble in paradise?
My Genelec 8020B have a 4 inch mid/woofer and are crossed over at 3 KHz. The dispersion is nice and even but the woofer is small and Genelec provide plots (which you can find on line)
What song/composition sounds like another artist?
ExamplesIt is very very hard to be entirely original. As a drummer I can confirm that nearly every groove has already been invented!

I think it is probably inevitable... For example Red Hot Chilli Peppers "Dani California" sure sounds like they copied Tom Petty "Last Dance With Mary Jane"I notice similarities all the time, I think it is almost impossible to be completely creati...

Marty,The Ohm design deserves a whole discussion in itself. I do not believe that they are immune from the laws of physics - and a large radiating surface is still going to beam - but by changing the orientation of the cone the beaming will occur ...

Focal Twin 6 are another active design that are extremely good & very popular - I agree that they would be very good as a home stereo and would make a great surround setup too.
Good CD for testing bass response
slothman,I luv Dragon Attack - Roger Taylor came up with most of it and played the bass as well as his usual job behind the drum set. My uncle's kids were in the same school as Rogers.
Pink Floyd
Samuel,Possibly, though Alan Parsons has produced some other really good sounding stuff - so it is hard to believe he did not play a significant role. It wasn't until "The Wall" that James Guthrie became directly involved with PF.

Bob,In order to disperse evenly and widelythe driver needs to be smaller in diameter than the wavelength of the sound being produced. In order to produce upper midrange frequencies at decent volumes (for farfield applications) it requires the use ...
Pink Floyd
Just another quick historical note - Alan Parsons is the one responsible for the sound behind the original masterpiece DSOTM. Alan still uses B&W speakers, as far as I know, and swears by them.
Pink Floyd
James Guthrie begun his career working with Greg Walsh (Tina Turner etc) at Mayfair Studios London. James Guthrie now has his own studio called Das Boot in Lake Tahoe and he uses ATC's (like David Gilmour). Pretty much all the remasters of Pink Fl...
active speakers, Paradise? Trouble in paradise?
Marty,Agreed. I was referring to the majority of conventional two ways. Omni's being a rather a minority.
active speakers, Paradise? Trouble in paradise?
That pretty much settles it for me then. Please note that my comments on nearfield two ways is not limited to active speakers at all.
