Good CDs Bad Recording
With respect to Rush. They have never sounded good - Power Windows was perhaps the best sound.I suspect Geddy Lee's hearing is not that good - for example he likes Fleet Foxes which is terribly compressed.
Good CDs Bad Recording
Yeah - the Chili Peppers.Other shameful producers or engineers who ruined good soundVlado MuellerButch Vig Tom Coynehttps://musicmachinery.com/2009/03/23/the-loudness-war/Stairway to Heaven has like 35 Db dynamic range!!! Most everything produced ...
Why does bi-amping speakers sound better?
Realization is quite there already : AVI ADM9.1 already have Wolfson DAC's in the speaker.

RHCP with Rick Rubin. Producers like Rick crushed the sound and garnered a great reputation for their in you face sound. Unfortunately it went from tasteful compression in the 70's and 80's to horrible lifeless harsh sound in the 90's. Fortunately...
Why does bi-amping speakers sound better?
If bi-amping is excellent then active speakers are the next and fantastic logical step - get rid of those lossy crossovers altogether and totally eliminate intermodulation distortion by asking the amp to only amplify what the driver is required to...
When and how did you, if at all, realize vinyl is better?
I would not say vinyl is better but it can be especially with the digital loudness wars of the last 20 years having ruined a lot of good music. Japanese vinyl is usually excellent and that is all I have ever boiught - the rest can be disappointing...
Have you ever tried a pair of speakers and said this Is the last thing I will ever need.
Well not exactly but almost. I first heard ATC in 1994 in a small hifi store in Aberdeen. The decision was immediate to buy the display model ATC SCM 20 they had and has been permanent so far - I have stuck with ATC and steadily moved up their pro...

Mystery of the Disappearing Frequency
@trytone  I would agree that you cannot do much to fix room modes. Radically moving the speakers may help but it is unlikely to entirely fix a problem at 50 Hz - as I explained the wavelength is longer than your room! Short of finding another room...
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
Geoff, Pick up any of hundreds of books on audio amplifier or speaker design. You will find ample proof that equipment is designed to minimize extraneous noise from the power supply (that is where you will find the fuse). You will find a low outpu...
Mystery of the Disappearing Frequency
50Hz has a wavelength of more than 20 feet (longer than your room). You are hearing room mode bass response. Since the effect is everywhere then it is also likely you have quarter wave cancellation. http://www.mh-audio.nl/CancellationFreq.aspThe o...
Low level crackling sound coming from speakers
Yup - your amp - something is breaking down to ground - probably a cap.
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
+1 AlmargThe only reason you could ever need better fuses or better power cords is if your equipment is totally inadequately designed and badly built to begin with!Well designed and well built Components will maximize the accuracy of the source si...
Whats playing on your system today?
@slaw Awesome. Xanadu and La Villa Strangiato are my two favorite Rush songs. My favorite album is exit stage left - still can't believe only three guys playing in real time without any loops sequencers or anything. What do you think is their best ...
