Mark Levinson preamp 380 or 38S?
As a former owner of a #380s, I can only agreee with the above. Save your money and hold out for a #380s. It is a great preamp. You won't be disappointed! You can always have an older unit updated, but I think it will cost you more money.
CES and thank you, Albert Porter
Albert,I really enjoyed the pictures of the show. Very well done. From those of us who cannot attend, "Thank you!"
Amp Recommendations for Acoustat 1+1s
I'd vote for the Acoustat TNT 200. I owned Acoustats and drove them with this amp and they sounded great. If you can't find one, the new Hafler designs are based on the TNT 200 Trans Nova circuitry and I believe they would be great too.
Help me find it again
Your components should sound good together on paper, but obviously this is not the case. Often the emotion in music starts at it foundation. I've never heard your speakers and electronics, but I was about ready to give up on my Revel Salons when I...
Whatever happened to HDCD?
I think you are correct that HDCD do sound better. The technology seems buried buy its new owner. However new formats like SACD and DVD-A seem to be getting all the attention. If all CDs were made like XRCDs or HDCDs and recorded correctly there m...
Your budget - $20K - best system for a small room
I second the vote for an LS35a speaker/tube system. Or a great amplifier though solid state was the Audio Research D 52 B I saw one on Audiogon for under $500. This makes a very musical system. You could pick up a ARC SP-6B or SP-8 and have a very...
ML No.39 or Proceed transport + BelCanto DAC2?
Well the audio world is always full of surprises. Not having heard or seen the units in question, I'll take your word for it. These things have happened before. I too do not like rude surprises and when I pay a quality price, I'd expect it not to ...
ML No.39 or Proceed transport + BelCanto DAC2?
Well, I would be surprised if your BelCanto would sound as good. Who told you the transport system was the same between the 37/39/390s? I guess it could be they do look simalar. . . but the electronics, power supply, circuit design all would make ...
Help with the listening room please...
Check out Acoustic Sciecne Corporation (ASC.com I believe) Is0Wall system. They can help you design your room. There Iso-Wall system really works. Also check out Auralex.com.They have a wide variety of diffusors products that can expand your room....
Plinius, SimAudio or Levinson $3kused?
I like the sound of Levinson gear. It is true to the music. When you get it right it is hard to beat the sonics and quality. I would have to know more about your system to make a recommendation about which amp would be best.Levinson is rapidly rec...
Run direct from ML 390s CD player without preamp?
I think you would be surprised how good it would sound. The #390s is very flexible. It also offers an upgrade path in that you can go from just the #390s to using a preamp, then use the #390s as a transport using a seperate DAC, and then if you ev...
ML No.39 or Proceed transport + BelCanto DAC2?
I owned the #39 for quite a while and used it as just a transport,(it sounded about the same as the #37 as for as I could tell.) a CD Player, it sounded much better than the highly regarded Cambridge Iso-Magic DAC and CD-Magic transport, and as a ...
Help I have not bought equipment since mid 80's
The pieces you describe are Krell mid fi they sound better than most equipment but not their high end stuff. I would return it asap depending on your budget. To buy the real Krell stuff your talking signiicantly more. You could look at Classe, Aud...

Revel Studio or Revel Salon?
They are both great speakers. A lot depends on your room size and your system. I started with the Studios and traded up to the Salons. Both speakers are very accurate and like the best in equipment if possible, but you could still easily buy the s...
