what drivers are best? thinking of a DIY project
Make sure you check out the Markaudio drivers. They are very highly regarded by the single driver DIY crowd.
Anybody a high-end pen collector here?
Sure,Besides audio, my other (non sports) hobbies include fountain pen collecting and watches. Been collecting fountain pens for 25 years or so, but that said, I don't buy so much anymore, just enjoy what I have which is both vintage and some modern.
Most sophisticated and intelligent musician
Joe Jackson. Although he's know as kind of a New Wave kind of guy, he's classically trained at London's Academy of Music where he went on scholarship. His catalog is pretty vast covering everything from light punk to Jazz, to Big Band to 4 part Sym...
Single driver speakers without the pitfalls?
This thread led me to a question that may or may not have an easy answer. Under which scenario is a driver (lets say 7inch) being asked to do more:1.) Run from about 45 to 5,000 hz2.) Run from about 65 to 14,000 hzI'm not sure what taxes a driver ...
Single driver speakers without the pitfalls?
Every speaker design is a based on compromises, and how you react to those compromises, what your room is like, and how loud you listen will determine whether or not you like the single driver sound. I'm setup in a small room with a near field arr...
Recommendations on Christmas Music??
Tracey Thorn - Tinsel and LightsI'm sure there's videos on youtube if you'd like a sample of it.
What's the greatest bargain in SET these days?
I'd be surprised if the loudness issue was due to the transformers. Decware seems pretty proud of the iron he uses. There is thread on another forum comparing the build/parts of the Dynamo to Decware and FWIW, the decware seems to get more respect...
What's the greatest bargain in SET these days?
A lot of DIY'er's have performed the Hazen Grid mod on their non Decware amps and this usually skeptical crowd seems to appreciate it as a viable mod as many seem to claim that it does in fact make an improvement. If you do some Google searches on...
Advice from apartment dwellers
I've found that by going the SET/high efficiency route that I get all the musical satisfaction I need at much lower listening levels than I'd use with conventional setups. Used to be I always felt like I had to turn it up just a little more to get...
RCA shaded dogs
If you have the LP in your hand and look at the label on the record, you'll see a shaded area around the dog. Once you see one, you'll know.
Coincident Dynamo vs. Decware SE34I.4
It's a great question because just as you say these are in the same price range. Both use the EL34 as triodes and both use according to the manufacturers high quality transformers. I know that Decware uses Jupiter wax caps but Coincident doesn't s...
recommend a mini monitor over 93db $1,000 value
I'd definitely consider some Omega single driver speakers. I have some in a smaller room that I pair with a 2 and 4 watt tube amps and they perform well
What's the greatest bargain in SET these days?
Hi Charles1dad,I know Decware states basically the same thing as Coincident as far as not skimping on transformers. Steve has stated that he's tested many different transformers in his amps and is pretty happy with the ones he's making now. Decwar...
What's the greatest bargain in SET these days?
Looking at the parts list, the stock SE84 is definitely using higher grade parts than the kit. It certainly would sound nicer than the kit version.
What's the greatest bargain in SET these days?
I've got the SE84 stock non kit amp which is similar to what Mapman linked to. The stock amp is probably better sounding than the kit in that it's direct wired with no circuit boards. I'm toying with the idea of picking up a Dynamo. If I do, it'll...
