Soundstage - Too much?
perfectimage, ewe say:"The further from the wall the speaker gets the less defined the image gets...." this is precisely where i disagree, & think the exact opposite is true. in *my* experience, proximity to side walls, & to a lesser exten...
New belt for Michell Gyro SE?
i am wery happy w/the o-l modded rb250 on my oracle; also pleased w/the o-l dc motor mod which i installed. i see no reason why a spendy cartridge won't work yust fine on the o-l mod arm, as it is supposed to be superior to both the stock *and* o-...
Best preamp under 5k for Krell amp
audio8, don't sell the pre yust cuz yer gonna get the h-t rig - run it thru the processor bypass of yer pre. yer 2-channel audio will sound better that way...
Soundstage - Too much?
no, perfect image, i beg to differ - speakers would image *best*, if there's *no* sidewall - i.e.: if they were outside.in my current set-up, my monitors are ~9' from the side-walls, & there is *no way* that i have imagining 9' beyond the outs...
Floor Standing "Warm" Speaker
i'd check out the meadowlarks. warm, like the vandy's, but much more involving, at least to these ears.
What to do? What to do?
if the diapasonn adamantes', adwertized here a while ago, are still awailable, stretch yer budget a couple hundred, & buy them. flat down to 40hz, very musical, holographic - they totally disappear, they're the most beautiful monitors out ther...
Best preamp under 5k for Krell amp
i recommend a tube preamp, especially w/solid-state amp. if ya listen to cd, it will also make it much less fatigueing. personally, i really like my melos music director preamp (latest version of the ma-333). this can be had for way less than $5k,...
Class Action Suit against UPS?
hi robba, most people don't even know what levinson *is*, let alone whether or not one sounds better than the other. those who *do* know what it is, surely claim there's a difference between the two. those who don't think the difference merits the ...
Soundstage - Too much?
perfectimage, perhaps i'm mistaken, but it's been my experience that sidewalls in close proximity to the speakers is what kills imaging, unless absorbent treatment is properly used, especially at the sounds' 1st-reflection point. i have found that...
Dissapating static electricity
find a screw on the chassis of the cd-player, run a wire from it to a ground. a bit more extreme, but prolly good for your health, would be to install a humidification system in your house! ;~) if all else fails, make sure to touch a less-sensitiv...
SS vs Tube: What do you hear?
hi trelja, while i *wish* i had tubes driving everything but the subs, fact is i have a pair of electrocompaniet amps driving my meret re monitors. but, yer assessment of what i think is pretty on-target! ;~) i think these are the best compromise a...
Biamplification in Mid-Fi?
the marchand xm-9 deluxe is exactly the x-over i'm using, & 1953 is right - it's great, & it's wery flexible. i currently have it set to 60 hz, x'd over to a pair of subs. but when i can get those newform r645's i want, the x-over goes bac...
subwoofers
for less tha $2500, you can purchase a brand-new pair of vmps larger subs, a brand-new tweeked marchand active x-over, & new-or-used decent high-power amp(s) of your choice. this system wil be easy to mate w/most any speakers, and all except m...
Vandersteen 3A vs. ProAc3.8
all the posts above have good things to say - i tink ya really gotta listen to these speakers, as they really are different, in many of the ways described, and ewe may really not like one or the other. for me, personally, i've never liked any of ...
Opinons on Musical Fidelity A3 cr Preamp
i haven't tried either the s/f *or* the m/f, but, i recently went from solid-state to tubes. i was using the latest iteration of the linn kairn, which was wery nice - accurate, detailed, dynamic, extended, good soundstage width & height - but ...
