Do you have a secret "guilty pleasure" recording?
I was the OP of this thread almost 8 years ago. I like how Audiogon has reconfigured its discussion forum to include recent posts to dead threads - neat to see the flame still burning.Huh, I’m still listening to "The Carpenters Greatest Hits" to t...
Recommend Shielded Phono IC for WT Simplex
The VPI phono cable is double shielded and works extremely well. I live near radio towers and noise/hum used to be a big problem - until I got the VPI cable. Now the noise is completey gone. You can purchace from Music Direct.
Stylus Rake Angle
In general, starting with the arm perfectly horzontal, then adjusting it up and down while listening is the way to go.
Gone are the days of the great audition.
Your situation is the exact reason that audio trade shows such as RMAF, T.H.E. show (and others) have exploded on the scene in recent years. In your area, go to the Capitol AudioFest. I have been to the RMAF several times and enjoyed the experienc...
CES 2013 - 4k and Ultra HD video thoughts
4k and Ultra HD is beneficial on large sets, projection systems and/or those that sit really close to their TV. On sets that are about 50" and below with average distance, the technology's advantage is minimal. Most folks have less than 50" screen...
Mc Intosh vs other brands
This post contains no news or surprises. Most audiophiles would agree that McIntosh is not state-of-the-art compared to Audio Research, Pass and Spectral. Their claim-to-fame is not to advance the SOTA and be the best that money can buy, sound-wis...
Another side of the "high end" from Wilson Audio
In mho, reviewing is about the "magic of the moment in the particular space being used." This is not to say that reviews are right or wrong but rather have many more factors than even the best reviewers can accuratly describe. Excellent point; a s...
Are Monoblocks better than Multi-channeled amps??
In general, monoblocks are better than multi-channel amps, mainly for 2 reasons:1) Separate power supplies provide more instantaneous current to the output stage.2) Because the L/R circuitry is housed in separate chassis, there is no interaction b...
Is Qsonix out of business?
Scary stuff perhaps, but not surprising. Qsonix gear became obsolete practically the day the iPad was released. Their claim-to-fame was the user interface they developed, but because the ipad is so much better (mpad app) interest in Qsonix decline...
Distance between components
Since your equipement is so close together, it is very unlikely that it will make a difference sonically. Be practical about it where possible - split the difference somewhat. I would go with 8 ft speaker wire because it leaves you placement flexi...
Why do digital coax cables matter?
Many of us simply think that, "hey, digital is nothing more than ones and zeros, so just as long as those ones and zeros get to their destination without changing state or being corrupted, a perfect transmission will occur and no sound difference ...
30 Years of Perfect Sound?
Mr. Rockwell should stick with photography articles. Yet another bit-head caught up in the numbers game - some of his diatribe sounds like something straight out of the mouth of a typical clueless Best Buy employee. Here is what I found most amusi...
WHAT GOOD IS SPEAKER AND CABLE IMPEDANCE ANYWAY?
Is this a rant? Are you trying to stir up an audiophile hornets nest? Are you asking a question? Are you simply boared and feel like breaking out the textbooks and typing? Above all, what is your point here? I sense you are frustrated at the indus...
Best finger food for audiophile listening
If spinning vinyl, licorice pizza seems appropriate.
Expensive Condo - Expensive Audio
More money than sense for sure. Looks great, but not a practical living environment. And yes, those are Goldmunds. Unfortunately, it appears that the owner stuck them in that room for a high bling factor with no regards to even remotely getting th...
