Rap music on high-end speakers
Karl, most older "classic rock" ( Beatles, Stones, Who, etc ) was done in a time period when the majority of speakers were sealed. For instance, look at AR, KLH, Advent, Jensen, etc... These were all major forces in the industry back then. As such...
How to hard wire?
100 volts under load, huh ??? That's pretty poor to say the least. Then again, that is less than a normal situation. I don't think that anyone would have ever dreamed that dozens upon dozens of rooms would all be trying to pull 15 - 30 amps all at...
OPINIONS Best FULL RANGE used speaker for SS
I agree with Natalie's comments about the room dictating speaker size. I'll go so far as to say that not only should the size of the room dictate the size of the speaker, the shape of the room, listening distance radiation pattern of the speakers ...
My experience with using a DVD as a transport
I have tried about a half dozen different DVD's as players and as transports and had similar results. None of them had the body, warmth or "soul" of a "decent" CD player i.e. they presented a much leaner, edgier sound to my ears that lacked pace. ...
I don't get it
I think that numbers 2, 3 & 4 are all quite valid. Number 1 might come into play, but it would be much further down the list. As to your comments, i agree completely. I hope these people keep "rolling over" equipment. There is no way that i co...
How to hard wire?
Brian, i hear ya and know where you're coming from. My brother gives me a hard time because most of my gear still has all of the IEC's on them ( even though i know better ). He has hard wired all of his components. The big difference between he an...
Need help with cable mess
Piece by piece, cable by cable is how a system should be done. Anything other than that is like saying "one size fits all". The ones promoting the "all one brand of cable throughout" ideology are the cable manufacturers. Can you guess why ??? Sean...
Forte 1a amp service?
Contact Jon Soderberg at Vintage Amp Repair. He's a former Threshold / Forte' tech and can take care of you. Keep in mind that it may take him a bit to get back to you though as this is not his main job anymore. Sean>http://www.rsvlonline.net/v...
Rap music on high-end speakers
Excellent point Bryans. What good is a "music reproduction system" when it is no longer "musical" or "enjoyable" ??? Once again, we come back to walking that fine line between "accurate" & "detailed" vs "musical" & "pacey". For a system to...
Who Makes It Anyhow?
Most "commercial" brands are sourced out to REAL manufacturers. This happens in EVERY walk of electronics. With the RF gear that i work on, there are 5 different manufacturers that have accounted for well over 100 different brands / 1000's of mode...
Rap music on high-end speakers
I think that this thread has turned into a PERFECT example of just how "important" preconcieved ideas, prejudice and bias are in society. Is that bad ? I don't think so. Why should audio be any different than the rest of the various subjects that ...
The most important piece in a stereo system???
You are only as strong as your weakest link. Just like a track team that runs relays, an outstanding performance from one participant can be completely hindered or even negated by a less than perfect contribution from someone else prior or after t...
DVD retail for 200 HELP this week.
Things to look for in a "DVD" player:Verify that it can at least play CD-r's, CD-RW's, etc... Has multiple audio / video outputs. This way you can connect directly to your TV and the stereo / processor at the same time and use either at any specif...
Any good all wood component racks?
I think that you'll find that your system will sound noticeably sharper and more defined if you go to an all wood rack. I know that some people find this kind of statement "goofy" to say the least. I would not have believed it myself if i had not ...
How to hard wire?
IEC's are strictly a matter of convenience. Personally, i find them WAY underspec'd for audio use, especially on power amps. Not only does the use of an IEC double the amount of point to point connections made in the circuit, most are not rated fo...
