Are Nordost really the Rolls Royce of cables?
Steve, which Nordost cable did they review and in what issue ? I don't remember seeing that specific one. I'd like to read it and compare notes with whomever wrote the article. Sean>
I wanna hear some "audio" jokes...and
WOW !!! No offense to Craig, but i think that he wins the "horror story" part of this thread hands down. Honestly though, since you confessed that much to us, you can go all the way and finish the story i.e. did you have to change your underwear a...
Cartridge/Tonearm matching fundamentals?
I've seen / used that "gridded graph" and it did not work out correctly. At least not in the one case that i relied on it. That was enough to teach me that not all "tools" are accurate. While i don't know if it is the same graph ( which i would as...
Where's My Bass?
If you are going to have your seat against the back wall, you better do something to treat the wall behind you. Either that or forget about strong imaging. Then again, i would rather have something that was tonally pleasing than be able to "see" i...
Cartridge/Tonearm matching fundamentals?
Nice summary of the "ins and outs" of arm / cartridge matching Twl. I would only add that very high compliance cartridges need very low mass arms. Moving Magnet cartridges with "dampers", "stabilizers" or "brushes" tend to be less finicky about th...
Sound control when finnishing a basement?
Pbb, that sounds like a pretty solid design that you came up with. Did you think of that all by yourself or have some help ? At the time that you did that ( 20 years ago ), information like what you just posted was not commonly available or easily...
Dedicated AC line with tray cable
Where is Glen when you need him ??? If he does not respond, i would try directly emailing him as i'm sure that he'd be glad to help you.Other than that, have you noticed any benefits / drawbacks to having the dedicated lines ? For those that are i...
Is it worth it to buy the Cable Cooker?
Detlof, glad to see that your results basically match mine. Then again, great minds think alike : )Much like Detlof, i think that cooking cables presents a much more natural and refined presentation. By "refined", i don't mean "restrained". I thin...
Sound control when finnishing a basement?
"Acoustic tiles" and drop ceilings are both pretty much useless when it comes to trying to make a good sounding / well isolated room. You really need to check out some books by F. Alton Everestt on the subject of acoustics and / or consult with a ...
Best classic pre and post amp combinations
What are your thoughts about the tonal balance that you seek in this preamp ? Sean>
Cables for Paradigm ref. 100's?
Aball, i can imagine that the MIT's produced a LOT more bass with a fuller tonal balance than the Kimber PBJ's. After all, the PBJ's are interconnects and might be a bit "lean sounding" as speaker cables. OOPS : ) Did you mean Kimber 4PR ? Sean>
I wanna hear some "audio" jokes...and
Audioak, now THAT was a good one and i can relate : ) I think that bass players tend to party the hardest as they get far less recognition than the singer, guitarist(s) and the drummer. Maybe that's why i don't remember much from the age of about ...
I wanna hear some "audio" jokes...and
Driver: Most of the bands that i've worked with have been at their request. As such, they've come to trust my judgment and don't give me a hassle as they know i'm only there to do my job and make them sound the best that i can. However, there have...
I wanna hear some "audio" jokes...and
Tim, i can relate to your comments about guitar players and volume. Having done professional sound reinforcement, the only guys that i had to battle with about on-stage volume levels were the lead guitar players. If you told them that they were to...
Are Nordost really the Rolls Royce of cables?
My limited experience with Nordost speaker cables echo the experiences of Philjolet. To make that clear, I've never tried their interconnects. Their speaker cables came across as being fast and lean sounding but lack liquidity and warmth in the sy...
