Any feedback on the new Wolff PC ?
My negative thoughts about this product are based on current limitations and non-linear distortions and safety hazards arising from such. You have one cord that you specifically state "do not use this with a power amp". Since most amplifiers only ...
Physical explanation of amp's break in?
Here's my last post to this thread.I am not an EE, nor have i ever claimed to be. I will only add that i have almost 2500 posts on this forum and who knows how many at AA. Having said that, there have been less than a handful of those posts that a...
Physical explanation of amp's break in?
Paulwp: I have posted a small portion of my background in an Agon thread entitled "Who R U". For further info, you can also read this thread over at AA's "General Asylum". I only mention this as it gives further information as to my background in ...
what are some decent starter am/fm tuners ?
I would be curious to read the opinions of those that have compared XM / Sirius in one's house to the music stations broadcast on satelite TV and / or commercial broadcast FM. Given that Peregrine is starting from scratch, it might be nice for oth...
Tweeter below mid-woofer
Kind of a funny question for me. I was recently thinking of starting a thread about imaging, soundstage and driver arrangement. Your question obviously touches on all of these subjects. This can be a very complex subject, so we'll try and keep it ...
TT drive belt comparison
Belt drives are a tough call. If you have increased coupling between the belt, drive pulley and platter, you have greater speed stability due to less slippage. At the same time, increased coupling / reduced slippage also results in greater transmi...
Is a cable cooker worth it?
Abex: varied test tones will work better than music since music is not steady state in duration nor of consistent amplitude. Sean>
Amp blowing fuses
Hmmm.... BAT tells you that earlier models "need" an upgrade and that it costs $500. That sounds like BAT put out a bunch of under-designed, defective products, realized what they did wrong later and now want to charge people $500 to correct their...
Would PS Audio P300 enough to feed Krell HTS 2?
For best results, keep the draw on a P300 to below 200 watts. The closer that you get to 300 watts, the poorer that it will perform. Sean>
I would like advice for a beginner.
Speakers are more of a personal preference and room acoustics type of selection than any other component that you will deal with. There are obviously hordes of people that like B&W's and their "house sound", but they must all be on vacation fo...
Is less than 24 bits worth it?
hahah.... looks like Ghostrider said it all and Jond and i were typing the same exact things at the same exact time. Look at our opening lines : ) Sean>
Is a cable cooker worth it?
Corona: The use of a signal generator by itself only works for interconnects due to the voltage and current levels that it can generate. For speaker cables, one needs to feed the generator into a power amplifier and use this to drive the cables in...
I would like advice for a beginner.
Not to sidetrack this thread, but i've read the reviews on PSB's ( always glowing with good measurements ) and listened to them on several different occassions and always wondered what the hype was about ? They sounded dull, thick and bloated to m...
Is less than 24 bits worth it?
Ghostrider hit it right on the head. I've seen well known 24 bit DAC's that could only achieve 17 bits of resolution due to circuit lay-out resulting in generation of internal noise. As such, trust your ears and not the marketing hype. Sean>
Is a cable cooker worth it?
Abex: After looking at the design for the Hagerman, i would not waste my money on such a device. For that matter, i would not waste my money on most of the other burners on the market either.A person would be better off looking on Ebay for an old ...
