Musical Used DAC for $500?
Either of the two DAC's mentioned would be excellent candidates. Sean>
is this the best guitar ever
I think that my Dad has that disc. I guess i need to borrow it : ) Sean>
O.K. Fess Up. Come Clean. Sing Like A Canary.
I have never done this with any of my current TT's. Having said that, i did nod off briefly ( 10 - 20 minutes ) with music playing on older fully manual TT's that i used to own many years ago. After coming to and realizing why i was hearing that s...
Whats the Story w/ Headphones?
I don't know about the Sennheiser's or the Grado's, but i basically agree with Marakanetz' statements. If you can find a good set at a reasonable price, electrostatic headphones or electret condensor headphones are the way to go. For E-stat's, loo...
Please help, obsessive audiophile question
Some good comments above.A small amount of channel imbalance that varies with volume is quite normal. Most mass produced potentiometers don't track both channels identically and will "wobble" back and forth slightly as the value is altered. If you...
Power Cables. Sound Quality Reduction under 240v
When shielding is improperly applied, you end up with results like that of what you experienced. Sean>
What power cord would you recommend?
My first thoughts after reading the original post was "i'm going into the PC business". After reading Sd's post, i'll leave it at that. Sean>
What is everyone using for dedicated AC lines???
Highend64: I think that you are correct. Due to the air gaps located between the stranded conductors, solid cabling of the same gauge offers slightly more material to pass power through than an equivalent stranded version. I could be wrong here, b...
Cal Alpha Dac v/s Electrocompaniet ECD-1 Dac
I have to assume that the ECD-1 is at least similar in design and performance to the circuitry that EC uses inside their "one box" CD player. If such is the case, there is little comparison between the Alpha and the EC. Sean>
Does unequal speaker wire length matter?
Only if you think it does : ) Sean>
What is everyone using for dedicated AC lines???
Albert: I think that Glen's been playing "sniper in the weeds" with us. Like you, i'm glad that he decided to give Audiogon another shot : ) Sean>
What is everyone using for dedicated AC lines???
Glen: Thanks for posting what you did. I had always thought that 10 gauge in conduit was rated for a max of 30 amps. Given that most of these ratings are running "on the edge" or even "slightly over the edge", i've always found that going at least...
What music do you want to play really loud?
Tvad: I'm far from an expert as far as Classical music goes. I haven't heard a million different versions of this piece to make comparisons to, but i know what i like and i like this one. I'm sure that there are some here that can provide several ...
Smooth sounding DAC?
Flex: My comments were not meant to come across as up-sampling solving the problem of limited bandwidth / limited transient response inherent in redbook so much as helping to reduce some of those drawbacks to a more bearable ( and even enjoyable )...
What is everyone using for dedicated AC lines???
I don't know what handbook you are reading, but try passing 50 amps through ANY 10 gauge wire for an extended period of time and see how hot it gets. Ratings like that are foolish at best. 50 amps of current through 8 gauge will show a very defini...
