Hear my Cartridges....🎶 @rauliruegas I think I remember reading that you had owned both versions of Audio Technica AT-ML180, the boron and the beryllium. OFC and OCC. Do you recall how they differed  in sound?
Tone arm resonance and cartridge compliance: How do they interact?? I’ve used my Stanton 881s on my Ikeda 407 with a light headshell. And with the counterweight all the way in I can’t balance it with the dynamic balance off. When I add dynamic weight I can only add a half gram to be correct.   Even though this is ...
High-end TT setup with phono stage built in @essrand I own both a 938 and a 948 in very clean condition. No problems at all. EMT turntables are made to last a lifetime. To find one in North America just takes patience. Or they are common to find in Europe. Both these models including the 95...
High-end TT setup with phono stage built in The best choice here would be an EMT 938 or 948. Complete with cartridge and built in phono stage.
Honest question about cartridge vs. turntable performance. @jimman2     No one here would say that it’s junk.  IMO I wouldn’t put an excessively expensive cartridge on it before upgrading the table first. That’s what the original post was asking advice on. Some of us get carried away expressing our opi...
Honest question about cartridge vs. turntable performance. I’ve noticed  some listeners aren’t as sensitive to pitch stability. The table may then be less important. A lessor table, especially a mediocre belt drive would be completely unacceptable to me. I cannot listen to piano not holding pitch. But a l...
Honest question about cartridge vs. turntable performance. @cakyol I total disagree. I could be content with a lessor cartridge, but never an inferior table. Especially if a decent arm was used. If you can’t hear the difference than your Lp12 isn’t set up properly. As most Linns probably aren’t with their...
Honest question about cartridge vs. turntable performance. @mijostyn I remember the DD tables back in the 70’s and 80’s and when I got my Linn lp12  in 1985 I thought it was so much better. I think the problem was I only saw the low end Japanese DD. Also when I got my Linn it was the first time I purchase...
Mint LP Best Protractor If you want the most accurate, I find the mint is the easiest to get perfect from my experience. The p2s must be exact though. I now also use a smart tractor as I have multiple arms. It is quicker to use but i feel it’s not as easy to see alignmen...
70’s rock pressings. Witch equipment deserve? I agree with @chakster Two of my more costly vintage MM cartridges I had checked by Soundsmith and were said to be operating as good as new. One was actually nos and the other had an estimated 150 hours. Or else I was just lucky. | |
SET 45 and their (real) required speaker efficiency I have had many SET amps with both Avantgarde Trios and Lamhorn speakers. I still own a 45 amp that I sometimes use with my Lamhorns, I have to say there is a big difference in saying enough power to play a system loud and enough power to play a s...
Where to buy decent 845 and 211 tubes? I no longer have my Viva Aurora's and have my extra NOS 845s for sale. Also, you are aware I'm sure that you only need one pair of good 845s for output. The rest just buy the regular cheap chinese. Mine used the 572 tube for driver. I'm assuming yo...
Need some turntable guidance @chakster It is possible to put together a 301 more affordably. Still more than the budget we are talking about here. I prefer grease over oil bearing but an oil bearing 301 can be had in nice condition for under $2k. And even less for a 401. I so...
Alphason HR 100 MCS - Re-wire or not? I don’t think the wiring is the issue. It’s a light arm and using high compliance cartridges on it as you’ve already found work better. Try a top mm and see what you think. I think you can get a headshell weight to increase the mass if you want wh...
Is a Linn Sondek LP12/Lingo/Ekos with a Cirkus update, the last turntable I’ll ever buy? It could be very well your last table. And you could live with it happily for many years. I owned one in the 80’s and 90’s and loved it. Just don’t be like the rest of us and go listen to other better tables and your good. |
