What about a product can irritate you?
The "Standby / On" toggle switch on the back of Joule Electra Vamp is located waaaay to close to the right speaker cable binding posts. Oh well. It sounds good, so I deal with it...
Phono Section of TAD-150 Preamp - How Good?
I just stumbled across this thread. As part of a system movement and subsequent simplification effort, I decided to try a TAD-150 for the heck of it, at least until I made up my mind about what I REALLY wanted. I have to say that I am quite pleasa...
Do folks use contact enhancing liquids with sucess
I have been using Walker Audio Extreme SST. Here is a link to a prior thread on this topic.
Best amp/preamp combo for Wilson Watt puppy 5.1
An amp with high power and current is ideal. While the Wilsons are highly sensitive, their impedance curves can be tricky, and are rated at a nominal 4 Ohms. The person from whom I purchased my 3/2s (which were upgraded by Wilson to bring in spec ...
Favorite CD treatments?
Walker Vivid.
Atma-sphere S-30, any users out there?
Terrific amplifier for the money. Actually a terrific amp period. If you have high efficiency speakers and a small room it is probably plenty powerful. I doubt that many amps in its price range can match its speed and frequency response.
Do You Remember Your First CD Player?
High School graduation present, 1990. A sony single disc player, but I can't remember the exact model number - something like CDP-486. I used it, and my roomate's similar player extensively when DJing in college. Sadly my guitar amp fell on it 2 y...
Vinyl, should I take the plunge?
Jjurich, this may be off topic, but I couldn't help but notice your incident with the 2 year old and your transport. I also have a 2 year son, as well as a 6 month old, and my saving grace was investing in an audio rack with a door, which I subseq...
better ears than budget, so i would like to think
If you're not afraid to go the tube route, there is the Tube Audio Design TA-30 integrated, which I believe retails new for around $900. This was recently reviewed favorably by The Absolute Sound.
Stereophile review of the McCormack UDP-1
This is just a hunch, but I suspect that the analog output stage and power supply play a larger role in the sound of this player than JA thinks they should. I have seen that be the case before. I have heard (and in the past owned) a modified Sony ...
good match for Atma-Sphere M60
I agree with Rushton's suggestions, and you may also want to check out the higher impedance Totem models, such as the Tabu or the Forest.
What's the tonearm mass of the Premier FT-3
According to the A'Gon bluebook, the FT-3 retailed for $475. However, my dealer informed me when I bought the table and arm, that the whole package was from the mid-80s, so I would assume it would go for more today.
What's the tonearm mass of the Premier FT-3
Rockyboy, thanks for initiating this thread, and Sdcampbell, thanks for posting that link. I just stumbled across this thread while searching for info on the FT-3. I have been searching for info on this arm for awhile - I bought a used VPI HW-19 M...
Worst mismatches in equipment: your warnings
My current Atma-Sphere/Wilson combo. Whoops! How I missed the obvious impedance mismatch between the power amp and speakers is a cautionary tale for anyone putting together a system component by component. I was so focused on finding a great tube ...
Can the Manley Neoclassic 300B handle a 2 ohm load
If you really wish to keep your speakers, you may want to consider an impedance matching device, like Paul Speltz's ZERO autoformers (http://www.zeroimpedance.com). I have been evaluating them in my system for about 2 months, and have been pleased...
